The Good:
-Run Game
-Buckshot and his football IQ
-Believe or not.......the O-line. They gave Buckshot time (except once he got sacked); and they opened up some holes with their blocking. One touchdown in the red-zone was their ability to overpower MU's D-line.....it was a true TEAM TOUCHDOWN!

The Bad:
-Penalties in general (one cost a TD, and holding penalties in particular. Gotta hide those hands boys!
-Entire 3rd Qtr. and part of 4th (D was asleep)
-Special teams was inconsistent. We recover a fumble on one kickoff and commit one on a punt. We did hold them from big returns, but it has been better in previous games. Nothing to worry about though.

*One other observation: The attendance was sad. It was just over 16K. The student section was so-so....but I really thought there would have been a higher turn-out.

The Good

1. Buckshot Calvert

This kid , if he can put together 4 healthy years, could leave his own mark all over the record books. His IQ as noted by RTB, is outstanding. He had a couple plays where he got out of pressure, kept his eyes upfield and was able to make a play. He is doing much MUCH better on his short and intermediate reads and not just launching Howitzer shots down the field.

2. All three running backs

We have a legitimate three headed monster back there with Calvert. Over 300 yards for the second time this year and some explosive plays not only in the run but the screen passing game as well. Have to look forward to seeing Lewis join this group in spring ball next year.

3. Chris Turner

He had the play of the game today on the first big play from Monmouth when he popped the ball out of the arm of Darren Ambush. If he scores, that is a major momentum shift early in the game. Instead, Holloway recovers, Liberty scores and Liberty isn't threatened until the 3rd quarter (more on that below)

The Bad

1. Penalties

We only had 5 on the day, but all of then were completely unnecessary. We aren't always going to be bailed out after a call (much like the 76 yard TD for Macon after the holding penalty on Passmore)

2. Taking the foot off the gas

When we were up 38-7 heading into the third, that should have been the signal to up the tempo and really get the numbers on the scoreboard spinning. Instead, we miss an assignment and Calvert throws an interception. Next possession, again a missed assignment and Calvert has to throw one up from his back foot and again its intercepted. Two plays later, another TD and the Hawks have the momentum. After a three and out and a punt to end the third, Monmouth scores again and the grumbles and groans get louder. Im glad we regained our senses and got another TD and basically sealed the deal, but we cannot have a bad quarter if we intend to win these next three games, and ESPECIALLY when we play CSU.

3. Big Plays On Defense
We allowed 6 plays of 20 yards or more and I believe half of them were 30 yards or more including the earlier mentioned big play where Turner got the strip and later a 53 yard TD run by Chaney. We have to learn to finish plays before a play gets to the third level on the run and the defensive backs need to do a lot more work so they can keep from getting beat deep in the pass. If we do not get this fixed we will NOT win all three of our remaining games in conference.

Thanks for mentioning the play of our #39 Chris Turner....that kid was everywhere yesterday. The one play he WALKED DOWN the MU receiver and tackled him in the red zone PLUS stripped the ball. Play of the week if you ask me!

Chris is an amazing talent If he can stay healthy, put on a few more pounds of muscle and continue to develop his technique, I can definatly see him playing on Sundays Players with legit corner speed and skills who are 6'3" are rare to say the least

The Good

We finally won a Big South game the way we're supposed to win Big South games. It's the first time we've won a Big South game by more than two scores since November 1, 2014. Yesterday is what should be expected against most Big South teams.

Offensive Line
We finally had the same line two weeks in a row and they played very well.

Progress on offense
This stretch of games was always going to be about how we looked, not the result. The offense seems to be clicking better. With the stability of the quarterback and finally using more of the playbook, we're getting an idea of the potential that unit has.

The Bad

Giving up 20+ straight points
I'm less concerned about the fact that Monmouth scored a lot in a row and more concerned about how we lost focused and weren't motivated to finish the game out. The good portion of this is that we recovered from it and shut the door but against a good team, we can't have that mindset.

Attendance
It was our best attended game of the season, but it was by far our lowest homecoming attendance since the stadium expanded. The 16,687 was 1900 less than the previously low (18,587 in 2010). Gill's average homecoming attendance before this year was 19,595 so this year is 2900 lower than his average.

Monmouth
The result of this game was nice, but Monmouth is not a good football team. They're 198th in the Sagarin. By comparison, Kennesaw is 187, CSU is 115, Coastal is 129, and Jacksonville State is 92. We are currently 136.

I thought it was awesome. What's not to like about it? The man is calling out a ridiculous "fan" and he had every right to make the jab. I loved it, but that's because my mindset is based on the fact that you don't miss a football game because 55 degrees is "too cold". That's absurd.

I'm not upset at all. I get the joke because I know there's a relationship. I said I can't believe Jeff (a guy who is keenly aware of appearance and perception) tweeted that. From a purely PR perspective, it's not a great look for the AD to post an angry faced response to a fan who decided to watch the game instead of go to it.

If Dave Hart responded to a Tennessee fan with that exact same message, it'd be talked about on the radio and in the newspaper this morning.
