Flames with a season high in points as they get major payback against one of the teams that gave them a gut-wrenching loss last year

Game ball goes to BJWILLIAMS for his great play by play call in the game thread.

Youre too kind postie...just trying to add to the experience today. Jon's waiting on his little one and I had some time today, I thought Id give it a try for those who can't get ESPN3 (I had to use the audio stream and live stats to put things together)

Dominating effort today for sure all around especially for the offense I was disappointed that Stephon Masha didn't play at all. I would have like him to come in the 4th quarter when the game was well in hand.

There was this little matter of Monmouth scoring 3 quick touchdowns to cut the lead to 10 If not for that I'm sure Masha would have had some snaps

What happened with defense to allow 28 points ? I was monitoring score from Alabama. When I saw Monmouth had scored 28, I thought it w a misprint.

I think they scored 4 touchdowns with an equal number of PAT's

Took our foot off the gas in the third and allowed three straight TDs ballcoach. We retook control after that

The voices of those calling for Dennis Wagner's job are strangely silent now If he can keep this group together and slowly incorporate Hartman and Crawford back into the rotation as they get healthy he will have worked a minor miracle It seems the current chemistry jelled when Lozano was inserted in the lineup I suspect he did not play much earlier because it took him a while to get up to speed after playing on Defense in JUCO last year He has 3 years of eligibility and should be a nice contributor going forward

The line is better but they also are mixing up the run game a bit and taking it outside a bit more which I think is a smart move. Our backs are very good.

The starting offensive line that helped generate almost 700 yards of total offense yesterday had only one player (Lucas Holder) who had played a single snap of college football prior to this year

Holder R-JR who was a starter last year before getting hurt
Passmore R-SO who was injured all last season after redshirting as a FR
Duff R-FR
Lozano JUCO transfer who played defense for Kilgore College last year
Isaacson R-FR WALKON

We did have Campbell, who has a ton of experience, backing up 4 of the 5 positions

You go ahead with that search for a better O-Line coach than Dennis Wagner Duke Good luck with that I think Gill will be focusing his efforts in other areas

That is a concern shared pretty much universally on here BYD (the penchant for allowing big plays on defense). that hustle by Turner on the first pass play was a gamechanger though. He doesn't get that strip on Ambush, he walks into the end zone and the momentum is swung squarely behind Monmouth at that key early juncture.

We ran 87 plays against Monmouth, which is in line with what Gill and Dailey have been saying they want to do in this offense That doesn't necessarily mean we achieved the sought after "fast Pace" however When you posess the ball for over 40 minutes, you should get off a lot of plays

This was a good result, but it should be what we expect, not what we're impressed by. Prior to last year, we routinely won 2-3 Big South games each year by more than two scores. I'm optimistic we will win the next two weeks in similar fashions.

The thing we have to keep in mind is that this stretch of football is against teams that are no good at all. The average Sagarin rating of RMU, KSU, MU, GWU, and PC is 207. Playoff teams fall between 90-120. The confidence and continuity we're gaining is extremely important, but we still have a lot to prove before we can say we are where we want to be as a program.

I totally agree that this was a good result, but by no means impressive Take away a couple of those second half TDs by Monmouth, a couple of the long plays, and at least one of the interceptions, and I would have called it SOMEWHAT impressive, but yes, you take the opponent into consideration I will point out however, that noone else they have played, including Kent State and CSU, dominated the Hawk's defense like we did

How many points we scored on their defense is the interesting part to me. They averaged only giving up 27 points per game until our game. We almost doubled that. How much of that was us vs how much of that was them having a season defeating loss vs PC last week and three straight road games?

I think most of it falls on our offense because they played a really good game, but the other part of it plays into it a little bit.

Yesterday shouldn't have secured anyone's job...it's Monmouth...we should routinely smoke Monmouth. If we can perform similarly against Coastal and CSU, I'll be impressed. Until then, this is just business as usual...unless we lose.

This is the thing we must all remember and keep in mind every week. It's very easy to fall into the trap of good results vs bad opponents.

But it's a lot better than having bad results against bad opponents
