Im surprised somebody didn't grab this and post it sooner with all the talk of Coach Gill being on the hot seat (even if this a pretty low level violation):

I didn't say anything because it's a stupid rule.

I get the penalty for the coach who did it, but suspending the HC makes no sense to me Pretty tough to keep up with every text your staff sends Not quite the same as Pitino's assistant hosting multiple parties with stripper\hookers in the basketball dorm That's a case where if the HC didn't know he should have

Who wants to take a bet on which game Gill will sit out?

It's a dumb mistake and even dumber rule. Somewhere Charlie Skalaski has to have chuckled though.
At least Gill won't have to go to Clinton this year. That's a win for him.

Assuming we win tomorrow, most likely G-W or Presby Probably Presby We could lose one of those 2 and still get the auto bid by beating CSU I'm sure he wants to be there against Coastal, which in addition to likely being the last time we play them for a while, could be for an at large bid Lose tomorrow however, and we need to win the next 3, so then it in fact would be Coastal he sits out

I Charlie wanted to micro-manage stuff like that he would probably still be at Liberty

No he wouldn't have. Gill chose his longtime friend over Charlie. It happens. Nothing Charlie did could've changed it.

I see what you mean, but he still had a job at Liberty as recruiting coordinator He left for EKU because he wanted to be a WR coach Can't blame Gill for hiring Brown for that opening I don't know what he's doing now He is no longer at EKU

I don't blame Gill for hiring Brown either. It's the nature of the business. Charlie was told he'd be in line for a positional coach when it opened up. The rub was when it opened up, Gill's longtime friend was available for the same position. Sucks for Charlie but it's the business.

I think it should be pointed out that Ron Brown is a GREAT football coach with an amazing resume, and a perfect fit for Liberty It's not like he only has a job now because he is TG's friend It's more like the only reason he is at Liberty and not a P5 program is his relationship with Gill and some non-PC statements he has made

The elder Skalaski spent one year as associate HC and WR coach at EKU Google does not seem to know where he is at this point My guess is he has gone back into the business world If he were coaching anywhere it would show up on a Google search
Interesting situation with Charlie IV coaching at CSU and engaged to our recruiting coordinator Kettie Fickter Wonder who will move where

I have never liked "social media" being utilized in recruiting. Whether it be texting, tweeting, facebook or anything else out there. I wish NCAA would ban all social media in reference to recruiting.

Long time lurker, first post. Work at LU and have no intention of posting much as I don't want to expose any of my sources but thought I could help out on this topic without any controversy. Charlie Skalaski Sr is coaching at UNC Charlotte this season. He is one of those "analyst" that FBS teams have now a days. He is working with the Special Teams and Offense. In my opinion we miss him, he did a lot more behind the scenes than many realize from what I have been told. I think you are right JC, if he was still here stupid things like that violation wouldn't have happened. I have heard from people inside the program that he loved Liberty and really didn't want to leave but felt misled and was troubled by some things going on in the program and took the high road and left.

I think you could make the argument that if he had been hired as WR coach instead of Brown, he might not have made that mistake because of his experience as a recruiting coordinator As Director of Personnel and recruiting, his replacement Kettie Fickter is someone with outstanding organizational skills I doubt if his being there in that role would have changed anything This was Brown's mistake, and I personally think it's stupid that the HC is also punished in cases like this, because there is really nothing they can do to prevent it

I think it's a dumb rule but I understand it. Education of the rules falls to the head coach.

That's the prevailing theory. The NCAA wants athletic programs and departments to maintain "atmospheres of compliance." The only way to induce leaders to foster such is to involve them in the penalty structure.

The NCAA should do a better job of enforcing their rules and punishing violators.
See: UNC, Louisville, among others. UNC had fake classes. Louisville had sex parties for recruits. NCAA drags violations out for years.
