LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) --
Survivors of a house fire in July reunited with the Liberty Flames football players who saved them on Tuesday.
It was only a month and a half ago in July that the Lynchburg Fire Department was responding to an enormous fire witnesses referred to as an "inferno."
For Shalita Franklin and her family, the wounds are still fresh. The scars of the fire that almost killed them are everywhere.
"It's hard to see you this when you can't even tell a home was here," says Franklin, pointing to the tree trunks stained coal black on the grassy lot that was once their house.

The Lynchburg Fire Department says that the LU football players also helped pull the heavy hose across the street to the house when the firefighters were struggling...
They credit the players for helping to save the neighbors' houses from suffering the same fate.
10 football players in all were recognized for their service by the Lynchburg Fire Department: Javon Frazier, Juwan Wells, Will Brown, Rion Davis, Mitchell Lewis, Malik Matthews, Korell Evans, Michael Anderson, and Cameron Jones.

Football team aids family, fire department during house fire
August 30, 2016 : Liberty University News Service

During the early-morning hours of July 16, members of the Liberty University Flames Football team helped the Lynchburg Fire Department put out a two-story house fire on Campbell Avenue. The student-athletes also provided aid to a 13-year-old boy who had to jump from the roof to escape the blaze. The 10 student-athletes were already on the scene when the department arrived.

“As a team, we are always encouraged to help others out,” sophomore Javon Frazier said. “Helping out during the fire meant that we were coming together as a team and serving our community in a way that will make a lasting impact on their lives and ours.”

On Friday, members of the fire department visited Liberty’s campus to thank Frazier and the nine other football players: Damian Bounds, Juwan Wells, Will Brown, Rion Davis, Mitchell Lewis, Malik Matthews, Korell Evans, Michael Anderson, and Cameron Jones. The mother of the boy has also met the players and thanked them for their assistance to her family.

Kyle had an Instagram story where the guys were honored by the fire chief last week in front of the entire team. Was really cool to see.
