Foster is one of the top guys at his position in the country IMO. Im sure even if they went with a vanilla defensive plan, he will have something good dialed up for us

Foster's defenses have not been the dominant force they used to be for years If they were, he would be the HC now A lot of people think the game has passed him by every bit as much as Beamer It will be interesting to see if he and his troops can get their mojo back under a new HC

I know for a fact that Foster has turned down the opportunity to interview at other schools as HC. There is also debate in Blacksburg about how much he really wanted the HC spot There were also solid rumors of the DC at Alabama being his for the taking. The defensive failures of VT the last few years have not been entirely on the shoulders of Bud Foster

Having been a VT fan for years, I can attest Coach Foster is as good as ever. He is the best DC in the country. 99% of all college coaches would probably agree with me.
The VT offense got so conservative in the past few seasons that it affected the defense.

Both Gill and Fuente are expecting to run up tempo and have @ 90 offensive plays. Game is at 12 so I'm thinking "shootout at high noon". Could be an entertaining game. We CANNOT turn the ball over or it could be a very long afternoon.

Foster has been passed over by Clemson twice and wvu atleast once. He wanted that Clemson job badly, trust me. Play both sides of the coin. Bud was a great coordinator but he has struggled to adjust to the changes to the game offensively. Loved watching him try the same game plan on ecu and giving up 700 yards after he beat up on osu with jt Barrett as the frosh starter. Further, he was flirting with Maryland to be dc as late as the spring.

There was no mutual interest at WVU. Trust me

Not sure why Foster would choose WVU over Tech, unless he had a passion for pepperoni rolls or moonshine. :dontgetit

Ever heard of Nick Saban or Lane Kiffin?

That's cause the drink the BIG ORANGE DRANK around there.

Seriously... Lane is such an enigma. He certainly didn't treat UT (or his brother in law!) right. He was a coach I "loved to hate." He has certainly done a good job at BAMA. I would not want him for HC though.

This guy is off his rocker if he thinks #1. Tech wins by that margin. #2. That LU only scores 3 points. and finally #3. That Tech only goes 6-6.

Tech has been known at times for looking past teams like LU, take JMU during Tyrod Taylors senior year for example. They played boise state the week before and lost by 3 and then got beat by JMU in blacksburg. Wake Forest in 2014 where that loss was almost as bad as the JMU game, because that WF defense was horrible and you could only manage 3 points against them. In 2013 they squeaked out a win in double OT(I think) against Marshall. All I am trying to say is that this game has to many inconsistencies on the VA Tech side for LU not to have a good showing and who knows what might happen if the game is tight going into the 4th quarter.

The VT of 2016 will be a different VT team than that of previous years. The basic difference is the up tempo offense that VT will be running, as compared to the conservative offense VT ran in Coach Beamer's last few years. VT offense previously consisted of 2 runs up middle and a short pass attempt on 3rd down, then punt.
having closely followed VT and LU for many years, I am afraid to make a prediction on this game. But I expect VT not to use but a couple pages of playbook. They will be saving for the Tennessee game. TN will not be able to get a good scouting report off of VT-LU game.

That Tech history is irrelevant. New coach, new offense, different philosophy, etc. At this point they're somewhat of a mystery and we will be the first clue as to their future.

He's not off his rocker.

Tech is running an up-tempo offense that is capable of scoring in bunches, our secondary was very suspect at times last season. Not to mention, VT is an FBS program...they have more scholarship athletes than we do. Sure, we've played close with WVU & Wake Forest...but no one in their right mind makes a prediction based off of those two games. FBS teams will always have a huge depth advantage of FCS programs. Lastly, we're going to have a brand new QB and they have eight returning starters on defense. Talk to anyone in Vegas, the people making money look at returning starters before anything else when making a bet. While it's possible we keep it relatively close, it's also very reasonable to assume we'll get smacked in this one.

Tech's history against inferior opponents has very little bearing on this game. New coach, different players, different system.

Again, I am not saying we upset them or anything. Also, I am not trying to disrespect you either. Nevertheless, last years defense which includes those 8 you mentioned got into trouble when they played a team with an athletic quarterback and I will as far to say that Stephon Masha is faster than all but 1 of the quarterbacks that Tech played against last year. 7 times they played against a team with a mobile quarterback and they went 3-4. Furthermore, only 1 of those victories(which was NC State) wasn't a nail-biter. Virginia Tech is bringing in a new system that could put up a lot of points and yes they do have more depth, but over and over again we continue to see week 1 games vs. FCS opponents not go the way Vegas planned. Tech has their eyes on Tenn. in week 2 at Bristol in my opinion. All I am really saying is, I can almost promise you that WE will not get beat 48-3 and it will be ALOT closer than the vegas boys or talking heads on ESPN say.
