forbidden wrote:Ok, and you act like Peter wasn't getting FBS looks before coming here , both agree they worked well together, but let's not act like JW woukd hv been on that radar and coming from someone who KNOWS how that whole thing goes, JW did work hard but if you think he's putting up the same numbers without DP your insane. Pat Kelly wasn't putting up 100 yd games like that he was possession at best, bottom line doesn't matter just wanna see all the boys do well

I never said whether or not Darrin received offers or not because it's a moot point. Peterson receiving attention didn't effect the attention that JW received out of high school. He was already being looked at before he ever threw a pass to Peterson. You aren't smarter than scouts...Woodrum received an invite to the combine for a reason.

And what on earth were you drinking when you made that Pat Kelly comment? It's fairly obvious now that you are arguing out of pure bias, and with little knowledge, if you truly believe that Pat Kelly was only a possession receiver. He had several 100 yard games and even a 200 yard game. He was one of the best receivers in LU history.

Don't make arguments about a player being reliant on another player without doing some research first.

Slow down there Arnold Palmer, first and foremost if your going to try and correct me know what your talking about. I never said JW wasn't getting looked at by any FBS schools, but hell so was DP, so whats your point. They BOTH ended up here, and they BOTH made each better, THAT was my WHOLE point. Nor did I say that JW wasn't deserving. So I wondered why he wasn't out there as much as the others, that's it. ANYONE from LU that gets a shot only helps whomever comes behind them, so DON"T put words in my mouth. I never said I was smarter than a scout, but I have been INSIDE a locker room so I KNOW how the "game" is played, from a different perspective, than most, hmm that could include YOU as well.

Before you try and make this a PK argument which I wasn't again know what your talking about. I made the observation that imo(which I am entitled to) said that PK was an possession WR. I am not bias, and def have more knowledge than YOU think. You want stats you got it, PK had 6 100 yd WR. gms in his whole career as he was a #2 behind CS. He had 2 his soph year and the reason he had the 200 yd game is because CS had a DNP, so he had way more opportunities that night. He followed that up with the next year with 1(one) vs VMI and his last year he had 3 GW Coastal and SBU. So if that constitutes in your mind one of the best ever in LU HISTORY or HIS-STORY as you tell, then so be it.

So don't think I don't KNOW before I spit out a few things. Its obvious YOU don't KNOW.

Wow! Petty disputes aside, the ONLY thing that matters, whether it's Petey, JW or Lunsford, is that LU gets exposure. Athletics is a great vehicle for the message of the Good News to be proclaimed. That includes our "walk" both on and off the field. (which also included message boards)

With all the positive buzz surrounding Josh Woodrum's draft prospects, some of the comments take a bit of a dig at the LU offensive scheme and its receivers:

"An intriguing “small school” passing prospect, Liberty senior QB Josh Woodrum (6-3, 225, 4.87, #6) is a player who will hopefully receive an invitation to an all-star game because he has an intriguing skill-set. He's stuck in a conservative offense that relies mostly on routes within seven yards of the line of scrimmage and has to deal with more drops than most other quarterbacks. Woodrum doesn't have elite physical tools, but he is a precision passer and clutch thrower on money downs. Although not NFL ready, he's a name worth remembering." (CBSSports.com)

"Josh Woodrum was a pleasant surprise on the combine invitation list.

"SURPRISE: Josh Woodrum, Liberty

"A surprise, but a pleasant surprise. Woodrum was stuck in a very conservative offense in college, but he is a precision passer who throws with timing and touch." (NFLDraftScout.com, "2016 NFL Combine: 10 surprise invitations and 10 snubs")

Did Josh write that copy? ;) It's a joke, people!

It's also interesting that two quarterbacks he faced in the FCS playoffs in 2014, and who were much more highly regarded than him, didn't get invites and were noted by the scouts as "snubs" because they didn't get combine invites; Vad Lee (JMU) and John Robertson (Villanova).

I watched him play for his entire career at Liberty, and I confess that "intriguing NFL prospect" never crossed my mind. Shows you what I know about football!

I think both Robertson and Lee were hurt this year and missed most of their senior year.

Maybe this is the fan in me coming out a bit, but I would be curious to see how he would do in the Rams offense with an elite running back in Gurley (and Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham as backups) as well as the crew of wideouts out there.

There are a couple of teams out there like the Rams and the Texans who are a quality QB away from contention. I think Josh could hold his own against the likes of Nick Foles, Case Keenum, Brian Hoyer,Brandon Weeden and T.J. Yates.

Joe Webb, 3rd string QB for the Carolina Panthers has made a good career as a special teams player. You cannot keep him off the 53 man roster because of what he contributes to special teams.

I don't know what Lunsford tangles are (40 yd speed etc.). I do know that he seems to enjoy delivering a big hit from time to time. If his skills are such that he could contribute to ALL special teams, I think he could make a 53 man roster as a kick-off/long field goal specialist. Especially, if he latches on with a team who currently has deadly accurate but aging FG kicker who is losing distance. But, he will have to be willing and able to block and tackle.

I wasn't comparing him to the college iteration of Keenum. Like practically every quarterback who performed in the Mike Leach system, Keenum lit up the college ranks, but has been somewhat middling as a pro. Leach spawned coaches Kevin Sumlin, Art Briles, Dana Holgerson, and Kliff Kingsbury, and they run similar offenses with similar QB numbers.

The QBs - Kliff Kingsbury, Billy Joe Tolliver, Graham Harrell, Case Keenum, Pat White, Geno Smith, Johnny Manziel - the jury's still out on the Baylor products of this system, RGIII and Bryce Petty - have not taken the NFL by storm, and most of them never made a career out of it. The longest NFL tenure on this list was Billy Joe Tolliver, who spent 10 years in the NFL with various teams.

I don't know how Josh would do as a pro, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the interest he's generated, and I trust these scouts know a little more about football prospects than I do. I think he can be at least as successful as a pro as these other QBs have been.

Josh is the one getting all the buzz it seems but I think Petey and Chima could find themselves in rookie camps and could certainly surprise some people as well.

Eh...I read it and while he probably could have gone about wording it better, I like his confidence, which I think he was trying to show with that comment to the scout.

The interesting thing about Woodrum is the importance of today. There's a chance that Cleveland and San Francisco pass on Paxton Lynch. If he does fall, I believe that causes a trickle down effect that prevents Woodrum from being drafted.

However, there is also the scenario in which Cleveland AND San Francisco take a quarterback in round 1. If that occurs, then I think it's almost a guarantee Josh gets drafted in round seven. The kicker with this scenario is if San Francisco drafts a QB and keeps Kaepernick (a very real possiblity). If that happens, Denver now needs a QB and this could push Josh into the sixth round.

The most likely scenario is that SF takes Paxton Lynch, sends Kaepernick to Denver and Cleveland passes on a QB. If that happens, I'd say it's a 50/50 chance Josh gets drafted in the 7th.

Regardless, I do firmly believe that Josh gets a chance during a rookie camp. There is a lot of buzz around him and as long as he can stay away from podiums, that buzz should remain.

Not surprised that we had no one drafted. I do think that we will have 3 guys get shots as FA. Josh, Chima and Lunsford. Hope Pete gets a chance as well. I guess we will find out soon.
