heck of a lot of 'ME-ism" and ""I-ism" in the building.

JW did more good things on the field than bad-but he also said more bad things off the field than good.

That was some of the most egocentric stuff I have ever heard coming from the mouth of an athlete in a team sport.
Check out a player who knows what to say and not to say with a mic in front of him. Articulate, spontaneus, likable and humble.

Here's the question I have been trying to think through, if Masha ends up not being our best option at quarterback, which in my honest opinion won't happen this year. But for the sake of the question I am raising and the thread, where will he play? I think he is to good of an athlete to keep on the bench as the backup qb again?

Good question. I wasn't impressed with some of his runs from the wildcat-he doesn't finish them. (Petey didn't either).

He could follow Gabe's career path rather easily. But as I referenced in another thread, I coule see him being a slash-type player like Zach Terrell.

Well barring any injury, if the QB going into next year is not Masha, then that QB has a possible chance to break all of JW's records anyway, depending on the type of offense HCTG and now OC Dailey are going to install. Will they be str8 Gun, Pro Set or what

Masha should have got more snaps this past season, the way the offense struggled.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't care for Woodrum's comments. BUT I also don't like the fact that kids are being interviewed immediately after a game. Think about the emotional toll that is required to just prepare for a game, then to actually play in a game, then to play in the last game of your career, then to win that game. There are a lot of things racing through a kids mind just minutes after the last game of their career...probably not the best time to be conducting an interview. On a side note, I'm not entirely sure that Woodrum isn't just messing around with whoever interviewed him. These types of responses drive the media and bloggers crazy and is typical with a player or coach who doesn't want to be bothered.
Some people just aren't great with the media...I don't think it's really any indication on how that person behaves behind the scenes.

I've done communications coaching with Dale Carnegie for a number of years. Some people just aren't great at public speaking or handling the media. And to be truthful, it's really not an important skill set for a collegiate quarterback. For someone pursuing a career in business? Sure...but not for a collegiate athlete.
Anyone who works in media will disagree with this because it makes them feel less significant. But the truth is, a lot of great quarterbacks didn't/don't handle public appearances very well.

A lady from my church was Ralph Sampson's communications coach when he was at UVa.

Let's just agree to disagree. If there is any position on a football team where managing the media properly is a priority it is at quarterback. The reasons are primarily internal.
Let's just say this is an area where I have rather significant experience in both the corporate and professional sport arenas.

Come on, Sly, you know you want to: why not throw us a bone and drop a few names?!

I have worked with NFL, MLB & NBA players as well as drivers from NASCAR Cup Series as well as IndyCar. Although I admit that my corporate work dominates my time these days.

Aaron Rodgers is great in front of a camera or at a press conference. He's a complete media darling. He has horrible relations with a large portion of his teammates and his coach.
RG3 was great in front of the press for the first 2-3 years of his career. He's constantly battled poor relations with teammates, which resulted in a locker room split and eventually got a very good head coach fired.
Roethlisberger hasn't particularly been great in front of the media...he has incredible relations with most of his teammates, his coach and the ownership.
Brady doesn't typically interview well and like Belichick, enjoys trolling at most of his press conferences. Has great relationships with his coach, ownership and teammates.
The entire Seahawks roster has turned post-game interviews and press conferences into a joke. Yet, their camaraderie is half of what makes them successful.
I could go on...but I think you get the point.
For the record, I do believe that a quarterback needs to display leadership on and off the field. Johnny Football, Jay Cutler & Colin Kaepernick aren't going to work. But this idea that we're going to learn who a player is and isn't from a press conference or an on-field interview...is just false. My main point is just simply this: asking a kid questions about the future of the team...immediately following an emotional win on the LAST GAME OF HIS CAREER probably isn't going to generate the best response.

I'm bias on this one, but I believe one of the best in all of pro-sports in terms of reputation management and PR is Peyton Manning. I think he is pretty well-liked, or at least respected amongst his peers as well.

+1. He has done a great job manipulating his fan base and the media on his way to one Super Bowl.

Im intrigued by Coach Dailey expressing some positive feedback about Swanson, who is the one person forgotten in all of this because of the focus on Masha and Yearick. I don't think he will necessarily win the starting or backup job but Im not there doing the evaluating although it does make for some intresting speculation as he is flying pretty much under the radar.
