I was at the game and in the "flames student club" zone. The game itself was a pleasure to watch when I realize what was going on last year at the same time. But I found it very frustrating to see "fans" watching the game and not taking a part in it. All the players ask of us is to show up and to cheer. I guess that is too much of them to ask. But it is okay for us to turn on our team after one bad play.

We had Garner-Webb down by 17 and on their first drive of the 3rd quarter they marched down the field and scored...Just like any program should do after coming out of halftime. At that moment our "fans" made the decision to give up on our team. It wasn't until the last play of the game that I heard someone yell, "get really loud they mght false start". I just thought this was funny considering he was not to be heard when the team needed him most.

Hopefuly for our next home game our boys will actually have support.

Are you freaking kidding me? I was front row on the 50 the entire game yelling and crap. Ask anyone that was around me. You seriously have some balls getting on here and calling me out like that.

I agree to an extent...people were into still after the TD...then there was that GW defensive stop, then the second TD, then the third....and all LU fans could think was, "not again".....I know it sucks man, but thats the way any stadium in the country would be if the opposite team scored 3 straight TD's

Listening to the game on the internet, I was thinking those Liberty fans are way toooo nice, they need to make some noise. I always think you guys are the nicest people around. Do you guys ever get rowdy? come on get Rowdy.... Let the team hear you. Let the people listening at home hear you.. My husband did not realize it was a home game it was so quiet..

thats because the press box is on the "baptist side" as we students call it...the student side is so much louder, but i am sure its hard to hear on the radio

actually the student side isn't great. I was there behind GWU bench, and the fans just sat there........And would yell at the cussing GWU players, "that is not the Liberty Way." The Liberty Way looks to be a bunch of Soft fans...

The funny thing is, our hockey team plays crappy teams. Let's go up and play Michigan or the University of Boston, then that would be a real team.

GWU is 5-2...but still not very good, we need win games like this...the football team is improved....and our hockey team may only play crappy schools as you call them, but at least they win them...they are a club team, no scholarships of course they aren't going to go up to michigan and umaine and all those good hockey schools and play them....they play other schools on their level and win....our football team plays teams that the rest of the country would consider bad and still loses....I will continue to suppor the football team because i believe they are improving...and i will continue to support the hockey team even if all they play are "crappy teams" oh wait, thats all our sporting teams, i should just stop going to games since we don't play the big times schools

Wake Forest isn't that bad..
Basketball team always plays good schools and Loses....
Girls basketball always plays at least one good school.
Baseball, yeah
Soccer, yeah
Track and Field, yeah...

No it pretty much looks like hockey plays the easiest schedule...

Also, how many other schools have a team composed of mostly canadians????

yeah...and we always lose except for one time with the girls bball team in the sweet 16....on top of that hockey is a club team, no scholarships not ncaa, but the games are a lot of fun...I love going to them...I like going to the football games too, but the hockey games are much more enjoyable so i understand where that kid is coming from....I think you are just looking for something to complain about....the atmosphere at the football games is much improved....when a team loses 2 heartbreakers 2 weeks in a row its hard to imagine many students not being a little disappointed

We're in the Big South... we're not going to play big teams consistently, maybe one or two a year. If you want to go to a college that plays big name schools often, maybe you should consider transferring until Liberty can get to that point.

Our hockey team can't play Michigan or Maine because it's not a NCAA team. It's not supported by the Liberty Athletic Department.

this thread is ridiculous. comparing club hockey to D1 football. students who make stupid statements, should stay at home. play D1 scholarship hockey and the games would not be as fun. it does not take a genious to figure that out. yeah the "baptist " side as students say was quiet, but the students were late arriving. this will take time. im glad the crowds are good at the level of play is competitive. we just do not know how to win yet. our fans are apathetic and it will just take time. let's hope no one gives me, because the boys need the support.

i agree comparing club hockey to football is crazy....this is what i've been trying to say...I was not trying to say I don't understadn why we don't play big time schools....but this kid was bashing on this kid for liking hockey games better...heck i like hockey games better...they are just a whole lot of fun to go to BECAUSE the win...but i love football and will continue to support the team....big name teams or not....

Yeah I'm not giving up on this football program for a long time to come. Losses like today's are frustrating, but not nearly as frustrating as the blowouts we saw last year. Baby steps. Everything happening this year is new. People talk about rebuilding years excessively sometimes, but that's truly what this year is all about. I'm on board.

no, I have a friend who got cut by Liberty, but starts for IUP in hockey. I enjoy hockey, but, I was pointing out what a fan said about the game. You know, kid....The point of this thread. But, hockey is not a fun as it used to be since Farva has graduated....

I think it was part shock, What just happpened and part here we go again, we have not become used to winning and expecting to win.

My brother-in-law and sister both went to IUP (I'm from Western PA).

If you were talking about Sy, that went to LU and transferred to IUP, I thought he just wanted to transfer. He went to the same Highschool as me.

I've been reading and watching for about two months now - my pal SuperJon turned me on to these boards. I have to say that for the most part I've been encouraged and excited by what you guys have to say, but to call out the student section is straight up lame.

Proof - GW head coach comes over to me personally DURING the game and verbally harasses me and the others next to me for calling out his players by name. He then adds, "you should be able to enjoy the game without using my players' names...enjoy the action on the field and get off my guys backs....if you don't stop, I'll call game management and have you all removed from the game." At this point, I reminded the coach that his team might be doing a little better if HE were more focused on what was happening on the field instead of worrying about what we were saying, and then I encouraged him to go get game management and try to kick us out. (I knew Jon and the LOYAL fans probably would have left with us in protest, so I was fairly confident this wouldn't happen.)

Unfortunately, GW Head Coach listened to me, and got his team back in it the second half, but make no mistake - this student and all of those around me were cheering adamantly until the final second.

Sure, there are some who are fairweather fans, who come only win we win or they have something to gain. I am finding however that more and more LU students are becoming increasingly devoted to their school and their sports teams. LU athletics are turning the corner, and while it is a process I think we should be extremely proud of the progress we've made.

not pointing fingers, but you may want to ask someone whose first name starts with "allen" and last name starts with "sparks"...i could have sworn we gave it back to him....maybe not.

Either way - we need to get the L -U cheer in order for our next two games; we beat Coastal and all of a sudden we have a shot at finishing the rest of the season unbeaten. The two home games will be huge. I don't think the cheer leaders are necessarily going
to help us, so it may be something we do on our own, although I'm sure it will become a treasured tradition fairly quickly.

If, and only if, the Baptists get behind it - the Bill will be rocking. This could come in really handy on those big 3rd downs. We've got to help our D out as best we can.
