discussing these losses is getting old. But what else can we do?
At least Terrell looked good today.
Only 9 seniors on a very young team.
At least we're not getting blown out every week.
(yes- I'm trying to make myself feel better)

I had the same thought.
This is another MAJOR issue Brock needs to work out. He did the same thing at h/c, standing at the LOS and letting the clock run out.
UNACCEPTABLE
we lost any shot at the game right there

Rocco said in the post game we WERE NOT going for it on 4th down. We were going to try to draw them off sides and take the penalty. We just never got up to the line.

Sorry lame excuse.

I'm thinking its gonna take time for this new 3-4 defense to take hold. Until we get comfortable, its gonna be very vulnerable to attack by air.
I'm not sure though, because at one point JE said we had 6 DBs in and GW STILL managed to throw accross the middle for a first down. It was on the last series, and kept their drive alive, resulting in the winning FG

Anybody wanna try the argument that the BSOUTH is vastly underrated this year and we are just facing INCREDIBLY improved teams that could take down schools in the SoCon, A10 and other confs?

(now grasping at straws)

Unfortunately I think you guys are on to something. Coaching and execution.
Inside the 10 yard line at Towson, Brock had the play clock staring at him and he let it run out.
Coach forcing the run at Towson against 9 in the box, his decision homecoming on the extra point with his team only up by 5 points in the second half and Jennings already out of the game and the second half adjustments today.

That's not an excuse, it's what happened. They were going to punt it no matter what if they couldn't get them offsides. They were never going to go for it on 4th down. Why would you take the TO? There was plenty of time left to get the ball back but not enough that you didn't need time outs.

When I was following on the livestats, I just figured they took the penalty to give the punter a little more room to work with.

final thought before I go kick the dog: I'm hearing from the guys at the tailgate that our WRs dropped several catchable balls AGAIN today.
here's hoping that these are growing pains, and that next year is a LOT better on the following fronts:
1.
QB (every week is still a question mark)
2.
PASS DEFENSE (evidently we need 2 cornerbacks)
3.
TE (I said this at the start of the season and you guys assured me that Chris Luck was the second coming of Eric Green

)
4.
KICKING (though we didn't miss any today- I'm betting we still had to adjust the game plan due to NO THREAT outiside 35 yds)

If it's not the kicking game, it's the pass defense. It looked like the whole time we ran the same defense, but I'm not sure about that... I only have one good eye due to an eye injury... I believe the rest of the home games this year will not see the same enthusiasm and attendance. We're 3 and 4 after a much hyped up season.

to be fair- WE hyped the season- not Coach Rocco!
And many said from the outset that being over .500 would be great, 7-4 would be like making the playoffs, and 8-3 was unattainable.
I laughed then, but am not laughing now. The naysayers were evidently a bit more levelheaded than was I

looking forward to hearing the press conference after yet another killer loss.
I hope SOMETHING is said to thank the 12k+ fans for their support and convince them to return in 2 weeks.
they better come up with some kind of promotion or something

What makes me furious about this loss, is what matthews said. People are going to start dropping off. We all expect better from our team but not going to the games doesn't help anybody. A loss like this usually takes me an afternoon to get over. But it usually takes the number of fans in atttendance 2 or 3 wins to get over it.

I didn't say Rocco hyped it up. It wasn't just people in this board either, it was everywhere. But as LUconn would agree, hopefully the hype won't die down and a student body who generally gives up on their athletic teams will still show up to games--we're still much better than last year

With that 4th down delay of game what peeved me was that on 3rd and 5 Rocco takes Brock out who was having a very decent game and then run a WESLEY CHEEK run. Im sorry but you dont put the ball in your 3rd/4th string rb on one of the most important plays of the game. Besides on that delay Brock didnt get off the sideline until there were 10 seconds on the game clock. Not sure how much we can really pin that on him. Penalties of course (the Luck hold I dont think we ever made up) and dropped balls killed drives. Just one of those I wish I didnt wake up today games.

Yes! Wesley Cheek?!? I mean, come on. That was the time to go to a playmaker, not try something "sneaky". Weak.
It took entirely too long for us to adjust our defensive package in the 3rd. They just walked down the field three times on us. We didn't even make it difficult.

Scar, Smoothie, SJ, Manger and Jim are so mad they're chopping down trees on campus right now...I stopped after two.

Liberty could have a conundrum on its hands in the future in the recruiting department if Gardner-Webb continues to improve it's football program (and overall athletics), since GWU is like Liberty Lite (university attendance being the difference), without the political lightning rod. In joining the Big South, 2006 GWU looks like it's following the LU trajectory ascent to higher profile athletics. If G-W continues to raise the profile of it's football program (and other sports) and grow it's university, GWU and Liberty will be in direct competition for the same talent demographic.
Also, for Rocco, probably year 3 or 4 will be the litmus test for him. If the team can land the recruits to bolster the areas the have proven to be a weakness then perhaps the hype and the actual gameplay will be matched in the future.
Although, IMO, the idea that Liberty will ever be a consistently nationally prominent football program 1A or 1AA is going to take some institutional adjustments to some of the more draconian elements at LU in order to land the caliber of talent necessary to play to that level.

Having said that, hopefully the LU players can bounce back from two close losses (even though they shouldn't have been) and get a solid win this year. Seems like the wind has been taken out of the sails a little more each week. The team shows flashes of good stuff and then goes into hibernation.

If the Coastal scouts were paying attention this week, I doubt we'll win on the road next week.

wow...thats all I have to say...our offense plays decently for once and our pass defense fails....our pass defense has been suspect all season long, but we have been able to make a play here or there on defense to prevent it from hurting us...today it hurt us....
I love Coach Rocco, I really do....but his lack of confidence in Brock once again showed....3rd and 5 and you run the ball with your freaking 3rd string QB!!??? Brock was having a good game, a pass would've been fine...if it didn't pan out, so be it....then the 4th and 4 non-play...letting the clock run out....so he said they were going to let the clock run out so it didn't matter anyways...well either way...BAD CHOICE!!! The GW passing game was picking us apart in the second half....what made them believe things were going to be any different??? Oh yeah, coach's lack of confidence in Brock....how is Brock ever going to build any confidence in himself if even when he has a good game coach doesn't trust him?? I know Rocco is saying all the right things, but actions do speak much louder then words....
ok, that is my take on it.....

Hey Medic, the Large soft drink cups were nice (not the amazingly huge ones, the car cup ones)
