I am taking my 9 year old from Lynchburg up to Morgantown for the game and need travel advice. I need the "best" route, where the "best route" = no "puke-a-rama." My son gets car sick easily on mountain roads.

My current route:

29 to Charlottesville
I-64 to I-81
I-81 to Hagerstown
I-70 to I-68
I-68 to Morgantown

Any other route y'all would recommend? This route takes about an hour longer. What about the cutoff to Afton (highway 6? avoiding Charlottesville)? That would save about 30 minutes.

Two Short Cuts on that route
1 - a few miles past Lovingston turn left on Rte 6. Go to the "T" take a RIGHT on 151. Go several miles till another "T" go up the hill and it drops you right off on 64. (That's also Brewery Row with all the micro brewery's )

2 - On 81 take the exit for 37 to 522 ( it's exit 310 or so). Take 522 through Berkley Springs and it drops you right off on 68. (It also takes you near one of the largest nudist campgrounds on in the East, don't ask how I know that)

In total that will save you a bunch of time

The route you chose is probably least puke-o-Rama, but I've never done Haize's shortcuts. The Afton Mountain shortcut I've done a lot. Not windy enough to make one sick, just a fast elevation change.

Nothing pukish about 522 at all unless 2 lane roads make you puke. Berkeley Springs is a pretty neat little town.

Yeah, Haize's shortcuts are definitely the way to go. However, I must confess I never knew about the nudist camp. I do remember Bambi Lea's though. I'm sure Haize could enlighten you on that as well.

Haha. Yep. Good ole Bambi Lea's. What I remember is there was the same car parked out front every time I went thought I think it was just there to make it look like someone was there. I'm not sure what happened to either.

Also, it's not a puke route at all. 6/151 is a gorgeous drive. If you just took 151 off of 29 past Wintergreen then it is. My shortcuts take out the Puke Factor.

I realized I am mistaken. The nudist camp is in Paw Paw, WV. You'd have to take a left in Berkeley Springs to get there

If you want a route to see more of WV, there's how I will be going today:
460 West to 220 North
I-64 West to 60 West
19 North to I-79 North

Now THAT's a puke route

Just the Route 60 part, and it's very short. What I'm more concerned about is the sound of dueling banjos through there.

Hey! Deliverance was filmed on the Chattooga River straddling the Georgia / South Carolina line. You won't find much dueling banjo action in WV. We're too busy chasing our cousins.

That's my preferred route. Through Buena Vista as well as 60 can be rough. But it's short. Watch the speed traps through Sumerville!

There's also a route going through Harrisonburg and using route 33. That's GORGEOUS!

I'll echo one WVU poster: if coming in on I-68, stop by Cooper's Rock. Short walk from parking lot to an unbelievable overlook view! My fam came in last night, and we'll be staying in a cabin near there for the weekend.

RTE 33 is a total barf coaster! No place to go the bathroom either. Although you can stop at Mean Gene's gas station in Franklin
