With a season ending injury to reserve guard James Passmore compounding the depth issues of our OL, to say the addition of a 6´5¨305 player who was a 3 star recruit out of Christchurch, VA and started the last 4 games of 2014 at LT for the Deacs is welcome may be the understatement of the year.

Smith can play immediatly, and has 2 years of eligibility remaining. No word as to whether Jada, Jaden and Willow will be moving to Lynchburg with him

Sweet. Talk about perfect timing. Is there a background story behind the transfer? Anybody?

Looks like after starting at the end of last season a couple of R-Fr were moved ahead of him in Spring practice. One of them, Philip Haynes, was actually recruited by Layer to play basketball at Liberty, although we never offered.

This addition makes me excited about how good our OL can be. The center position is still an issue, as is depth, but if Holder and/or Queen aren´t up to the task, having Smith would pave the way to do something that I know has been discussed. We could move Burgess to Center. That would be a bold move considering he is a 2 time All BSC and preseason All-American as a guard, where he has played his entire career. Nonetheless, he has all the attributes you want in the position and if he makes the transition successfully it would do nothing but enhance his pro prospects. That would give us a starting OL of Burgess, Hartman and Sommers, the 3 returning starters, plus Henderman (who I know our coaches are really high on) and Smith. Holder, Queen and Campbell (who has actually been a starter in the past) would be the top reserves. A possible wild card is Dontae Duff, who could be the rare Fr OL who does not redshirt. He was recruited specifically to play Center, and at 320 would give us a lot more size than Holder or Queen.

Something I just noticed is that our Recruiting Director worked for Wake Forest just before coming to Liberty as Skalaski´s assistant last year. Coincidence? Maybe.

Gibbs' rule #39: "There is no such thing as coincidence."

The most interesting tidbit to me is that he only played 2 years of football in HS. Before that he ¨excelled¨as a basketball player.

With Will sitting out the entire year injured, what are the chances of his getting 2 more years? I´m thinking not good because I don´t believe his redshirt as a FR at Wake was for medical reasons, but you never know with the NCAA.
