Per FlamesNation and the JMU board

This is a devastating blow to our schedule. I have no idea who we will find to fill this hole this late in the game.

My thoughts are ok, fine it does happen but my radar is going 100 miles an hour on this. I think with the fact that JMU knew LU was going to tap into the Texas market by playing North Texas and Baylor and doing the satelite campus, they felt the heat of being left behind, in terms of possible FBS notice. Do you think this could be happeing to again somehow 1-up LU in getting exposure to a VA school in that region. I read where he thanked AD Jeff Barber for basically letting them off the hook, per say. Hope he also made them pay for doing it.

Thoughts? Am I just way off base here

A few things at play here:

1) bear in mind that we are only three months removed from basically embarrassing them in their cathedral of football designed to attract an FBS conference invite, namely from either the Sun Belt or MAC.
2) they already had to concede the game to us because of the last postponement of this game.
3) if I'm JMU, there are two options playing this game: 1) they win, get payback for the loss by beating the Flames in their house 2) Liberty wins again, compounding the embarrassment from last year.

I'm curious what that telephone conversation between the two athletic directors was like with JMU suspending this game indefinitely

So wait... you are telling me that they paid a crap ton of money to host a playoff game just for us to beat them at home. THEN they GIVE US a crap ton of money because they don't want to play us anymore? Thats funny.

So sounds like they screwed us by doing so at such a late date, unless Barber can pull a ribbit out his hat. JMU lost money in the bid then lost the game, then bailed on the rematch to get paid by SMU. Maybe the money from them helps them break even

And also seemingly trying to make headway into the Texas market.

If I was Barber with this late notice, they would be paying a HEFTY sum to back out this game, and if I possibly didn't have a fallback plan maybe would of held there foot to the fire and made them play.

He can only extract what the contract stipulates.

It may not be central to the decision but it is a very significant factor Coach Withers has strong ties to Texas HS coaches dating back to his days as a Longhorn assistant. He also has a different philosophy about scheduling FBS games than Mickey had. So them trying to add a pair of FBS games to their schedule each year is certainly a change in tactics. It also might be reflective of their need to icrease revenue away from student fees per a certain house bill.

I trust SJ's sources on the buyout. I hadn't heard that anywhere else. That makes this even more disappointing and has me even more fired up to beat them again.

Then if I am JB what benefit would it be to my school to let you out of a "CONTRACT". Then It leaves me to scramble unless its commonplace to have a provision that maybe it can only be an FBS opponet that enables you a possible exit from the contract. IDK clearly guessing on my part.

From and ags poster. Let's bring in SHSU Fordham or Mercer. Go make it happen FFG.
From what I have put into the spreadsheet here on AGS, the following teams are open on the 9/26 date:
**Keep in mind some of these teams probably have games scheduled but have not yet announced them.
Portland State
Howard
Missouri State
South Dakota
Southern Illinois
Bryant
Saint Francis
Bucknell
Fordham
Jacksonville University
Mercer
Sam Houston State
Alabama State
Mississippi Valley State
Texas Southern
Edit. Take out Fordham, Howard, Bryant, Jacksonville, and Sam Houston. They do have games.
