Academics clearly are not an issue for Rudger as he picks up offers from three Ivies.

I hope he knows about our Honors Program and its most famous football alum, Sam Gaddo.

We had a girls' basketball player turn down 2 or 3 Ivy League schools to come to LU and also join our Honors Program.

How do you turn down a free ride to Harvard?

The Ivy Leagues don't offer athletic scholarships. If you play ball for them, you have to pay your own way.

While the Ivies do not offer athletic scholarships, they do offer grant-in-aid. So you are not completely on your own.

Any word on whether the Ivy Leagues are offering COA (Cost of Attendance)?

No cost of attendance. But, they offer financial aid based upon need. Ivy League lands all kinds of 3 and 4 stars. So, the financial aid packages are very attractive and probably very subjective when evaluating need. A kid needs to be wicked smart just to score above 1800 on SATs. But, a degree from Ivy League can change a kids life and generations thereafter. It was a huge discussion when Jacob got the Cornell offer. It is definitely something that needs to be considered. I don't know many unemployed or those with 2nd jobs that have graduated from one of the Ivy League schools. The thing about these financial aid packages is that it's not contingent on playing football. A kid could quit after the first day of practice and still retain the package for the entire 4 years. That is huge protection from the renewal of scholarships each year.

Based on who offered him, this is one QB I don“t think will have any academic issues at Liberty. Moves really well for a kid his size. His Junior year numbers are startling, although I suspect the competition was less than stellar. One QB in the fold, at least one more to go.

Given his tweet when he committed, and the fact that he chose LU over the ivies says a lot about his commitment to Christ. I mean I love LU but we are not Ivy in a lot of ways. And in a lot of ways I'm proud of to. But still props to this kid.

Omg, really I does every kid who chooses LU over another mean it's for the love of Christ. First, and foremost let me say this, I am all for religion, raised in a religious household n all that. It seems any and everything that happens ppl jump on the saying it's because of Christ. I think that is what rubs some people the wrong way. You can be religious and love whomever, whatever but could it simply be that out of the other offers he had that LU was just a better choice, for what was out there and had nothing to do with Christ for once.

Yes...in this case I do believe he is here for the cause of the school which is training champions for Christ. I was a former recruit that past on the chance to come here as an athlete because of its mission. God led me back to finish by degree after a stint of making a living on the soccer field. I'm can not be more thankful for my time at Liberty because it grounded me in my faith. For this reason I will always be loyal to Liberty and its mission. Not all kids that come to play sports on the mountain are here for that reason but I would wager most are. Does that mean that kids wont be kids and fall into the temptations of the world? No, I don't believe that. Gill and his staff have done an amazing job of recruiting good football players and most seem to want to be here for the right reasons. Let's just be happy we are seeing a rise in talent in the program and kids like our past two commits are committing this early in the process.

Why the hate ? Its a logical explanation of why he chose LU over his other offers.

Ok, not even about to go down this road with anyone, I know certain topics can be very very touch to some, i'll just say that maybe it was better for him sports wise than the other offers he received, and that is why he chose LU. Of course with grades like he has the Ivies are going to come calling. So if he chose LU over the Ivies its automatically because its a Christ thing, if he would of had all the Ivies and JMU, or Coastal or and reg school and he chose them does his faith suffer or could it be those schools possibly provide a better chance for exposure than the Ivies, thats all im saying.

You are partially right it may have been another reason, but it could've just as easily been because of LU's mission. Why you feel the need to completely dismiss that is beyond me. You seem a little overly passionate about it so I am guessing there is a bit more to your feelings on it than you are letting on.

No sir, not overly passionate about it at all, I have no dog in the fight per say. I will be the first to say this kid is a solid get for LU. My thing is was this, to me anyways that alot of times as soon as something good comes along for somebody its like they try and play the GOD card. Its in big time sports as well and has trickled down to other levels. My point in saying that at times it just feels a tad bit not real.
Ill put it like this, Im one of the biggest Deion fans there is/was out there but him dropping to his knees on a punt return was that GOD or was that the other 10 men helping block. You see its so bad that you see Deangelo Hall copy cat that same move whenever he makes a play (hasnt been in years, sheesh) When Toby O crushes the qb is that GOD or was that Toby maybe using a coaches move or something that he studied that put he put to use that helped make that play. When Woody hits Petey for 6 is that GOD or play design or maybe even Petey making someone miss. It just seems played out at times and not GENUINE for all. And when it comes off as being disingenuine in even the slightest bit, it can rub people the wrong way. Like LU does'nt or should'nt know that.

It's obvious it rubs at least one person the wrong way. God gives us gifts and talents and as Christian we praise him when those gifts and talents bring Him into the light where all can see Him, through us, on display. That is the mission of LU.

The second we try to hide the God card is the second we stop existing as a school.
