Past Seasons Success = Stadium Expansion?

I was bored today, and with little coming from MBB right now, I needed some nuggets of excitement.
I found the following “Champion” article from way back on August 28, 2013. If you read the first 10 or so lines, it quotes JB stating another possibility for expanding the stadium. The scenario he references has now come and gone with the successes of this past seasons squad.
So, has anyone checked to see if something maybe happening to the stadium prior to a FBC conference invite?

Little birds have been chirping the past week or so. But I haven't heard anything concrete from those that really matter. Frankly I am pleasantly surprised that this is a point of discussion. The next phase of expansion will be bigger than the last one. Seriously. So it may take more than just one offseason to complete and may need an earlier start.

My guess it starts as soon as next season is over and is finished after the first game of the 2016 season.

If this one is planned to be bigger, I would not be surprised if it was started immediately following the last home game of 2015 and they worked on it through 2016 and everything was buttoned up in time for Commencement 2017

I still haven't heard anything to change the idea of it not happening until we get an FBS invite.

A good point Manson...here is an interesting question: the 50th commencement and 50th anniversary of Liberty will be coming up in 2020 and 2021...what do you think the chances are we have an expansion done in time for those celebrations?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was done starting after the last home game this fall...but I just thought about the 50th commencement and 50th anniversary since you have to think it would be one of the showpiece facilities for those celebrations.

We all know how much things change at Liberty, but both Falwell and Barber are on record from during football season saying the expansion not be happening until we receive an fbs invite.

So what you are saying is we are breaking ground before graduation?

We should average at least 19,000 this year with the best home schedule we have ever had, but I think we wait for the FBS invite before we expand.

So (and this is major forward thinking in asking this), if we do not have an FBS invite before the 50th commencement (2019-2020 school year I believe) or the start of the 50th anniversary year, we still won't expand?

So what you are saying is that the REAL reason that LUO might be moving to "downtown" is that Liberty is getting an ACC invite, tearing down the mall, and building a 60,000 seat stadium.

Looks like it may happen regardless...as I said, the 50th anniversary and 50th commencement are just off the horizon. It'll be time to start planning for both of those before you know it, and you have to think the football stadium is going to be one of the showpiece facilities for both of those occasions. Having space for all the different events planned would mean having at least the second stage done before 2018 or so, .but that is just me thinking out loud with that.

I didn't realize that the second stage was to be bigger. I thought it was presented as being about the same addition as seating but less of a major building task because it would be just an upper deck not the whole tower. Any way...
I think Barber and Jr. are realize we must grow as attendance grows. If we are pushing capacity next year I have little doubt that we will build, regardless of invite. You have to figure that larger attendance is a nice feather in our cap when looking for an invite. And a bigger stadium would be as well. So to say we won't build till invite might be foolish, it may be necessary to help get an invite.

I had heard they were talking about building another tower over there, just didn't know if it'd happen. I think it'd be an exact replica of the current one, right? Only differences would be one floor would be a permanent home for the athletics offices.

I was actually working on an update for the site, but maybe I'll just hold onto it for now.
And if I was just Joe Blow poster no one knows, I would tell you exactly what I know, but I can't do that. I just wanted to correct something I posted last night that has changed.

BYD is spot on. They plan on not just building an upper deck, but an entire tower on the student side. The media would move there, along with athletic department offices and more suites.
The press box was huge before renovation to the president's box. Now it's barely big enough to fit 10 working people, and the game ops people are right in front of you, blocking views during games. Very frustrating.

Will that whole side still belong to students, or just the lower level that's there now? When we actually show up and stay the whole time, it gets pretty crowded there, and I'd like to not have to worry about hitting one of my friends in the head.
