Looking Ahead to 2015: Wide Receiver

Sorry for the delay, with 6 straight nights in electronics, I didn't get a chance to go over the fullback position, so I will merge that with tight end for next week, but now we move on to the guys who will need to be the speed burners in 2015

Players Lost
Jaquan Glover 6 Catches 89 Yards 1 TD
Gabe Henderson 56 Catches 651 Yards 4 TD

Players Returning
Darrin "Petey" Peterson 85 Catches (School Record) 1379 Yards (School Record) 12 TD (2014 Big South All Conference First Team)
Dante Shells 25 Catches 560 Yards 3 TD
Dakota Kelly 4 Catches 41 Yards
Zac Parker 3 Catches 16 Yards
Ryan McCarter 1 Catch 3 Yards
Isaac Brown No 2014 Stats
Kyle Carrington No 2014 Stats
BJ Farrow No 2014 Stats (Sat out 2014 Fall Semester)
Justin Fritts No 2014 Stats
Theo Mayo No 2014 Stats
Malaki Roy No 2014 Stats
Tyus White No 2014 Stats

Petey Peterson leads the way for this bunch, coming off a record setting season and another first team all conference laurel. The telling note though, is that of the returning group at wideout, better than half the group did not make a catch in 2014, and with Petey and SHells, who had injuries to deal with for part of the year last year, leading the way, at least two of them will have to step up to take some of the load off those two as teams will no doubt be game planning heavily for them in 2015.

An interesting sidelight to this is the case of Stephon Masha, last year's backup QB. He has the kind of speed that would be very useful in the slot with the departure of Henderson, and it is something that haas beenn bandied about a bit on the board. I would not be surprised with that move, but it does put a lot of the onus on players like former LCA standout Dakota Kelly at that position.

A couple of guys to keep an eye on heading into spring ball will be BJ Farrow and Justin Fritts. Farrow, also an LCA standout, sat out the 2014 season while getting his academic house in order, and Fritts was the most improved offensive player coming out of spring ball, but did not see a catch or target last fall. Both likely will factor into the rotation at WR in the spring as well as the fall.

If I look at this correctly it basically shows we have 4 WR's under "scholly" The rest are run-ons within the team. And looking at what we are going after at that position, unless they are not listed they are all signing elsewhere. After Petey leaves we will have 1 outside WR and 2 slots under "contract". I wonder what is being done to address this to make us better

Um I think this school will be fine in doing enough just to get by. They seem xtremely happy with 22 shared titles and the best facilities money can buy right?

We have 6 on scholarship. Peterson, Shells, Parker, Farrow, McCarter and Fritts. We are recruiting at least 2, Damian King and Denvre Daniels. If we land one on them we will be well set. Farrow is really good. Frank Rocco is not really one to heap a lot of praise on his players, and he says he was the best HS receiver he has ever SEEN.

So let me get this straight. Your opinion is that LU, nor myself even though I don't wear a uniform, will be never be elite because we don't have grey and silver uniforms.

Well you may wanna check your figures, might be a little off, lol
Yes, I heard Farrow was supposed to be LEGIT, as I have been harping him praise myself, so I hope he is as advertised. FYI, maybe your boy Rocco, hasn't really seen alot of HS WR's, depending on where he coaches at.
Think LU pulls 1 of the 2 in Denvre and King, would be nice to pull both, and it would have happened without the silver/gray uniforms too, for the other smart asses.

I think his point (which I disagree with), is that the only way liberty takes the next step as a football program is through a constant influx of newer, cooler looking uniforms to appeal to the fickle sensibilities of 17-19 year old young men, whether they are grey, silver, black or any number of other colors

It's obvious some people on here need not start drinking so early in the day. I know exactly what YR was saying. He hasn't made 500 posts stating and insinuating that the only way for LU to be great is to have grey/silver uniforms.

I agree wholeheartedly YR...I just hope the rest of the position threads don't end up this way

I personally thought it was one of your better write ups. Although knowing year and eligibility remaining would be good

Glad I could help pave the way for more colorful language on this board....

Rocco coaches at LCA. He coached Dimitri Knowles, who is playing for VT, and Pat Kelly, who was our top receiver a few years ago. He also has coached against a number of D1 receivers.

Which of the 6 WRs I listed are you saying is not on scholarship? I know for sure all were signed to NLIs. Parker and Farrow both had academic issues, but my understanding is that once they became eligible they were placed on scholarship.
