As most of you know, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) just cut their Football program. Are the stars aligning for us to make the move, especially after this current playoff run we are making? do we even want to be in the Conference USA? who would be our competitor for this open spot, JMU?

If you head to the Non-LU Sports Forum, we have a massive 'NCAA Realignment Megathread' where we have a rather significant discussion.

In summary, we'll be thrilled to go to any FBS opportunity. CUSA is particularly attractive to most everyone in the Liberty community. We are a darkhorse for the opportunity for a number of reasons led by the fact that a western addition would balance CUSA's lineup. But several Sun Belt schools led by Louisiana-Lafayette & South Alabama are considered the favorites IF Conference USA does in fact add anyone. Either of their departures would significantly increase our chances of getting a Sun Belt invitation.

And yes, CUSA appears to be one league that potentially interests JMU. But they seem like a long shot as well.

If either Sun Belt or C-USA issue an invitation, LU should go immediately, and not ask any questions.

Personally I would much rather see CUSA over Sunbelt. I'd rather stay in the Big South than go to Sunbelt but I know that is likely not to happen. If offered, LU would jump into the Sunbelt with both feet. As a person that has already made the "move" to CUSA, I can say, I can't wait for the Alma Mater to follow. With the recent football events, I say it seems more likely than a year ago.

Our current run the playoffs does little to enhance Liberty's chances of joining any FBS league. The reasons the Sun Belt passed on Liberty less than a year ago are evidence which verifies this fact. It may help with perception in the eyes of fans, but that's why fans don't make decisions like these.

Please lock this thread. The "NCAA Realignment Megathread" doesn't have enough posts yet.

Any chance we can merge these posts into the megathread?

Just get into a BCS conference, regardless of which one.

The BCS is dead dude...and no way we're getting into a Power 5 conference anytime soon.

I wasn't speaking of a Power 5 Conference. The correct term may be Division 1-A conference.

Just get out of Big South and move up.

The correct term is FBS...which is different from BCS...and Division I-A is no longer used and hasn't been for a few seasons now. I get your point, but it adds credibility when the correct terminology is used

The NCAA changes the terminology so much, it's hard to keep up. I liked it better when it was just 1-A and 1-AA.
