This isn't going to be an easy game. The pressure is off because we control our own destiny but would like to set the tone for next week by coming out with a big win.

I'm sure Lang will write a piece on this, but what exactly are our chances of punching at least an at-large bid with a win this weekend?

Im not Lang, but I would say they are a lot better than previous years. We have zero bad losses, an FBS win and our opponent results have bolstered our resume as well. Add to that the fact that we will get to 7 D1 wins and that is a pretty good recipe for the committee

Hope that's enough motivation. But I don't feel good about this one.

As long as we win this one, we will still have a pretty stout resume. our goal of course is the Big South championship but its good to not have a WTF game against us at this juncture.

We have the guys to shut down the Bucs as we have before and its at home as well.

I hope I'm wrong, but I have this sinking feeling we'll be left out if we lose to Coastal. The past 6 years have made me cynical.

Our resume is much stronger than in those past 6 years:

2008

Good: win over ranked Youngstown State, win over ranked Elon, 8 D1 wins
Bad: 2 sub-D1 wins, loss to unranked Lafayette, loss to unranked Presbyterian

2009
Good: 7 D1 wins
Bad: No ranked team wins or FBS wins, loss to unranked Stony Brook

2010
Good: FBS win (Ball State), 8 total D1 wins
Bad: loss to unranked Robert Morris, loss to unranked Coastal Carolina

2011
Good: win over ranked Coastal Carolina
Bad: 6 D1 wins (sub-D1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan), loss to unranked Stony Brook

2012
Good: win over ranked Stony Brook
Bad: 5 D1 wins (6 total including sub-D1 over Concord), loss to unranked Coastal Carolina)

2013
Good: win over ranked Charleston Southern
Bad: 6 D1 wins (sub D1 wins over Kentucky Wesleyan and Brevard), loss to unranked Old Dominion

Doesn't matter.

If the committee has any reason to leave us out, they will. While losing to Richmond, Indiana State, Coastal and UNC would all be good losses, our resume won't lock us in playoffs either. We'll merely be an argument. The only way for us to get in is to be a lock. That would have meant beating Indiana State and Richmond, or it means we win the conference. When you're merely an argument, expect nothing. VTech basketball fans know exactly what I'm referring to. A better resume won't mean anything, we need to beat Coastal.

Of the last 5 years with Seth Greenburg, 4 of them were spent taking trips to the NIT. Every year Greenburg would get upset about the committee leaving them out. But when you are considered a "bubble team," you are in that area because there is one argument for you being in the tournament and another for you being left out. We're in a similar situation. There's reasons to include us in playoffs, but they'll also have a reason to keep us out. We've had an argument before and never gotten in. Simply having a better resume won't get us in to playoffs, we must beat Coastal.

VT did get shafted several times by NCAA Selection Committee.

As for Charleston Southern game, the LU defense that played the 4th Quarter vs. Monmouth, must show up in the first quarter vs CSU.

And your point in posting that? We beat GWU 34-0 and our defense totally dominated them. CSU is capable of beating us if they bring their A game and we don't, but what they did against the bottom feeders of the BSC is no reason for concern. Here's another score.

Presby 7
CSU 3

. . or . . CSU 27
Monmouth 0 (A bottom feeder) :D

The key to game will be whether or not LU defense shows up.

Yes, Monmouth is a bottom feeder in the BSC. They are winless. We fell for some trick plays and let them stay in the game for 3 quarters. As someone else said, it was our WTF game, but we won anyway.

Hey ballcoach, you think it's important if the LU defense shows up?

Yes, if LU defense shows up, we win. We need to put pressure on QB every time he drops to pass. The Monmouth QB had too much time until 4th quarter, then we turned up the heat on him.

I think we win this one solidly. the Bucs have only been within 2 scores of Liberty...I believe twice since 06 (05 was the last loss in the series) and the master rebuilder watched his team get mowed down like a failed mob lackey in North Charleston last year. The guys know that while it wont affect the Big South title race, this is about the playoffs, so I don't see them overlooking this one, especially as the final regular season home game

Just so I understand you correctly, ballcoach, the LU defense needs to show up, right?
