Flames win 28-7 and stay with CCU in the race for the Big South title while simultaneously eliminating the Blue Hose

(I will leave this space for Sly to put the pic of the stats in)

Thoughts?

They were who I thought they were. Very average team. Hope they win out though, stupid hos.

I said it in the game thread, but I'll say it again. How in the world did they score 28 and stay so close to Coastal?

It was never really close. Not sure why they went conservative in the second half. Defense played great. Special teams where meh.

Nice win! Great day for the safeties with four picks. Defensive line brought very little pressure. Offense was good in the first half, but stagnant in the second half. We don't seem to have that killer instinct to blow teams away this year. We get too conservative on offense with a lead. This could come back to bite us, like it did against Coastal last year. Blue Hose not likely to win out, playing Ole Miss next week, haha.

Seems nobody really wants to grab that mantle of being the "third wheel" in the conference. CSU looked like they were...and they lost three in a row before today

Monmouth looked like it, and then they laid back to back massive eggs offensively the last two weeks

Now PC stepped up to the plate...and their defense couldnt make enough plays against CCU or LU

Curious how things shake out when Kennesaw State comes in next year

Same thing I said to Lang, about the offense in the second half about being stagnant and non aggressive.

Good game for LU, we pretty much dominated all day, the score could have been a lot worse. Don't understand the fake FG or the onside kick. I like that kind of thing, It didn't hurt us, just the timing was a bit odd. When we blitzed it was effective, not sure why we stopped. I am thinking the coaching staff knew we pretty much had the game in the bag at halftime and chose to be conservative, can't say I blame them, the Hos offense was pretty anemic.

VMI beat Furman too. That says something about any wins against the Paladins............................... meaningless.

Though it would be nice to see Liberty run up the score the past two weeks by staying with the passing attack, I believe the additional work the running game is getting will benefit the team WHEN they get into the playoffs.

I was off the grid today and pleased to hear the results as I made it back in cell range. Here is the recap from the SIDs:

The Flames pushed their winning streak to three straight games and remained unbeaten in Big South play with a 28-7 victory over Presbyterian, Saturday afternoon.

The contest was played during an odd mixture of weather, as an early November snow blanketed Bailey Memorial Stadium overnight and the remnants remained until halftime.

During the second half, the skies cleared and saw the Flames move to 6-3 on the year and 2-0 in Big South play.

It wasn't that close. Lang had me nervous for no reason.

No, there was a reason to be nervous. But LU's safeties did a great job reading McMath and rendering him ineffective. Kid only had three INTs all year before yesterday, and that was playing against two FBS teams and Coastal. Liberty made him look terrible. Did a great job of containing him to the pocket as well.

I agree with Lang, there was good reason to be nervous about this game. And it made me even more nervous that some people weren't nervous about this one.

I enjoyed seeing the fullback runs on 3rd and short. Better odds of getting a first down with a quicker handoff to a stronger back. I hope Shells is alright. If not, we need to find a suitable replacement. Glover is a pretty good possession receiver, but probably won't beat anyone deep. I noticed McCarter got some playing time, but he hasn't really shown much. Are none of the young receivers, such as Fritts, capable of beating people deep like Shells? If Shells is out for a while, we'll need to get Herman involved more, and Henderson will have to continue to step up. Jalloh does much better on kickoff returns than Brown. Parker still has fumbleitis. Lastly, the offensive line has been really good, and Fualaau makes a big difference in run blocking. We missed him in the Indiana State game.

Thanks to Lang for all he does. We have never had better news coverage.

I had my concerns about this one as well. I figured we would win this one but I really wanted to see us g out better than we did. the defense really carried the day but we cannot get off to a slow start, especially in the next three. All three of our remaining opponents could really put us in a hole, especially Coastal.

Question: how much of the last two weeks is us playing better and how much of it is a drop in quality of opponent? I'm guessing it's somewhere between 60/40 and 70/30, but I'm not 100% sure.
