Google is your friend BJ -
nolle prosequi
(no-lay pro-say-kwee) n. Latin for "we shall no longer prosecute," which is a declaration made to the judge by a prosecutor in a criminal case (or by a plaintiff in a civil lawsuit) either before or during trial, meaning the case against the defendant is being dropped. The statement is an admission that the charges cannot be proved, that evidence has demonstrated either innocence or a fatal flaw in the prosecution's claim or the district attorney has become convinced the accused is innocent. Understandably, usage of the phrase is rare. In the 1947 courtroom movie, Boomerang! the climactic moment arrived when the District Attorney himself proved the accused person innocent and declared nolle prosequi.

Thanks flamehunter...I have to shake my head reading that list though...do these kids somehow think that they are bulletproof or something because they a) are Division I athletes or b) go to Liberty?

or sometimes an ADA will nolle pros something in exchange for a plea on the other stuff

we usually just charge the summaries and then withdraw them if we get a plea on the M's or above

no sense piling on it doesnt affect sentencing.

dont know what they do down there.

Maybe he should be playing in the NFL. :) Public Intox, if true should be enough for him to move on elsewhere IMVVVHO. Don't need him representing LU any longer.

You guys are not taking about how sad this is and the FB think they are about the Liberty Way. Heck this kids need a ..... chance too. Let'em all in. Heard Winston was on his way to Liberty Mtn.

Logic?

One young man with a troubled past who wants to make a positive change sought out Liberty to help himself do so.

Another young man ALREADY PART OF THE PROGRAM apparently simply doesn’t want to follow the rules.

He’s probably off the team. And guess what, if Kevin Grooms doesn’t follow the rules he will be gone as well.

The reference to Jameis Winston is stupid. huntandfish, you were rightfully called out for being judgmental and apparently still smarting from it. Get over it already.

You know the old saying " Youth is wasted on the young" might be in play here. Why not extend the same grace to this dude and he is part of the family? He's a good kid I'm sure and I bet after he got caught he was sorry too. So what if he comes clean. (You guys are funny and i love to get you guys all jacked up. When I was young I was just like you guys) Just like Paul said when I was young I... but now that I'm old I .... As you get older its called wisdom simply because you see the world as a broken place and man is not good. We all want to look at the good in people the problem is people are not good. The issue is simple ,there are no absolutes anymore. What ever happened to if you do this you are gone. Not from school even but you gave up your right to rep the university. In sports a person can do something that will get them canned in any job in the world be we allow it and Winston is a great example and the kid from Marshall as well. Not throw them away but what happen to you have given your rights up to "play".

Not everybody on this board is as young as you think. There are plenty of seasoned folks on here so I am not sure why you think because people disagree with you they must be young. Has it ever occurred to you that you may be wrong? Normally as you get older that becomes easier to admit, not more difficult.

I am old by most standards on here. These sort of situations occurred back when I went to LBC in the early 80's. Athletes were given second, third, fourth chances. And in many cases they eventually cleaned up their act. There were lines that could be crossed but I believe guys like Grooms and Nicky would has received treatment then like they are now. There was a basketball player in the '70's I believe who came to Liberty from prison. He was given another chance by Dr. Falwell himself.

I will admit, I'm 32. that isn't ancient but i'm only just on the side of what most would call "young". That said, I know that you only get so many chances before you have to face some serious consequences. Also, the thing with Winston is that he is the face of that team by virtue of his winning the Heisman trophy, so his bad decisions are much more magnified. Nicky will have to face up to what he has donr, as well as whatever consequences may be manifested as a result.

I made a few bad decisions in my 32 years on this earth and sometimes grace was extended, but even if it wasn't, I still faced the consequences of my decision, and Nicky and Kevin will as well.

That's my two cents but I will leave it to the wiser lot on the board to show you your error huntandfish (also, trolls are not viewed too kindly here)

You hold your family to different standards than those outside of your family. Your family knows the house rules. When they break them, they deserve to be punished. I don't think Fualauauauaua should be kicked off the team but he deserves the suspension.

I am probably the oldest rat in this barn. I am all for showing grace. This kid has already been arrested once last year, and now arrested for public intoxication. Not sure about the veracity of first arrest, but pretty hard to screw/make up a public intox charge.
Since I don't know the internals and probably no one here does, I will trust the HC and Admin. to make the correct decision. From an outsiders perspective, albeit a LU football alum, I would think a suspension at the very minimum. Based on the surrounding circumstances, I would not be against kicking him off the team either. My .02 Fight on.

FWIW, I am all for the Marshall kid, apples and elephants.

It takes a big man to admit when he is wrong. He is obviously NOT a big man

And I have no problem being called young!

Nice job comparing apples and grapefruit.

On the one hand, we see someone who at least says he wants to make a change, and is looking for an opportunity to do so. On the other hand, we have a young man who has been given that opportunity and repeatedly disregarded the rules he agreed to abide by. Totally different people, totally different circumstances. If the former does as the latter has done, then he will also be shown the door and will not be part of the football program.

And as for your youth comments -- I am 46 and a senior pastor. FAR from young, unfortunately. And even I can see the difference in the two situations.
