Wow is Coastal really expected to be that good this year? Also just realized that N. Dakota State trounced Iowa St. 34-14.

1. yes
2. UNI could very well have beaten Iowa
3. 'Nova should have beaten 'Cuse

besides P5, the more I watch some of these G5 teams the sicker it makes me. we could compete. immediately.

sigh

I am glad we haven't risen to the top 25 yet, I like a slow climb.

Isn't ags just a fan poll?

Also, Furman is no where near the 12th best team in the country, and how on earth is EIU still ranked? EKU should be about 20th.

I wonder if the voters slept all weekend.

Yeah, AGS is a fan poll but has a ton of voters who allegedly pay attention to all of FCS. Although that poll would indicate that historical biasas supercede results at times.

I think if we are 4-1 following ISUb, youll see us in the top 25 (unless there is some serious upheaval at the lower end, and even then I still dont think we are ready)

I think Coastal and Furman are overrated, especially Furman. I guess things will settle in before year end. Don't think we need to be rated 22 yet either. If we beat Indiana State, then we should be rated. I see that game as a classic trap game though, on the road, the week before Homecoming against Richmond. Hope I am wrong about that.

These polls really don't matter until week 5 at the very earliest.

I like the Massey rankings the best. Average of all the polls.

Beating A&T by 1 point? I realize it is early and they may have overlooked the Aggies, but they have a very weak schedule as I recall and see them riding that wave to a high rating all year. As one example, McNeese State appears to be a much better team and is ranked lower.
I know it is good for our conference to have a team ranked, etc. but Coastal seems to be ranked higher than they should be almost every year, based on their on-field accomplishments. Some teams in FBS and FCS just seem to get more than their share of love, ie. media darlings. IMVVVVHO.

I might be wrong but I don't think Coastal is a Top 10 team. For some reason unknown to me, Coastal always seems to get a lot of love from Pollsters.

It's combination of a lot of people coming back from last season, a quarterfinal appearance and others around them losing games early. You know me. I'm a proponent of waiting until week 4 to start the FCS poll. I'm not sure they're a top-10 team, but they're ranked right where they're supposed to be, if that makes any sense.

Coastal is getting love this year because they won in the playoffs, and returned a lot of guys. They beat Montana on the road and made it to the Quarters. They lost to the eventual National Champions. If we made it as far as they did, and returned what they did, we would feel deserving of a top 5 ranking. Polls aren't supposed to be about past results, but everyone knows they are.
Plus they have the BSC preseason offensive and defensive POY.

Lang is spot on as usual. I will say that they can't repeat 5 turnover games like that much like we can't repeat games like we we had against UNC otherwise they could get knocked off their perch

Very funny...I like his perspective. He adds to the discussion without sacrificing professionalism and journalistic integrity. As a writer, I appreciate that sort of thing...I'm getting to that point with BYD and manson with all the work they put into FlamesNation

Your sarcasm is duly noted once again postie...anyway, if we can get on a nice roll here starting with Bryant next week (since its pretty well assumed we will win this weekend), we will get back into the polls as well. I dont see us getting anywhere near the top 10 unless we did not lose a game (including App State) leading up to the Coastal Carolina game in November

Why thank you very much. This EKU alum will take that comliment but still feel nervous about EKU being ranked. As a fan I look at it as we beat a partial scholarship team on the road and beat a very bad FBS team on the road. Both games EKU fans felt they should of won regardless.

EIU is still ranked because they are like CCU. They made a deep run in the playoffs last year and have played 2 FBS teams this year.
