Maine held NSU to 100 yards of total offense in beating them 10 to 6. Looks like their defense is good, as we expected. Offense..... not so much.

Trail is gonna play Sundays...definitely...they were so deperate for offense though that he actually got a couple carries

The box score says he didn't BJ.

Ervin played, and went 2 for 4 for 5 yards with -11 yards rushing on 3 carries.

Biggest game of the year in regards to our at large hopes.

Agreed...and decisively. Indiana State will be one to keep an eye on because of their being in the MVC, but we definitely gotta have this one

10-6 loss to Maine. Can't take these guys for granted, but don't think that is likely.

That would be App State. We have to have this game, but it won't get us an at large bid.

App State would be nice to have, but a loss to them doesn't kill us. It's a nice thing to have, but if we can run the FCS table until the Coastal game, we should have a good shot at making it as an at-large. If we lose to Norfolk State, we have no shot.

As usual, Jon is on point. we pretty much are going to be favored in every FCS game this year except Coastal Carolina and maybe Richmond. If we are to have a chance at an at-large bid, we cannot have any "WTF losses". This game would certainly classify as one of those

If we follow your scenario, an at large bid would definitely have less than 50% chance of happening. This game is not a quality win. Its not putting us in the playoffs unless they beat William & Mary or Buffalo (both unlikely) and win the conference (again, unlikely). Its Robert Morris from 2010; very, very little for us to gain and everything to lose. Richmond and App State are the ones that will determine our at large hopes, barring a catastrophic loss.

Everything to lose is why I rank it as more important. If we lose to NSU and beat App, I think we're still looking from the outside.

If we lose to NSU, we're not beating App State.

Norfolk State, Bryant, and Indiana State each give us the same thing. A win that is not quality, or a loss that knocks us out. None of these teams are going undefeated in conference or even challenging for their conference crowns.

9-3 with losses to UNC, App, and Coastal and a win over Richmond gives us a good chance to be in.

Richmond would have to win or tie for the CAA championship for us to get serious consideration for an at large. 1 quality win out of 12 games is not going to win the committee over, unless Norfolk State and Bryant are also competing for their respective conference championships and Indiana State has a winning record for the season. Those things would have to happen for us to have a good chance for an at large bid. Our schedule is that weak.

That will depend upon the other teams' seasons. Our at large hopes would be effectively riding on three teams who went 4-7 in the NEC, 3-9 in the MEAC, and 1-11 in the Missouri Valley. Plus, the Big South would have to be as competitive as they were last season in OOC games. Plus, Richmond would have to be competing for the CAA championship. Use Charleston Southern in 2013 as an guide. A lot of things can happen, but it is not likely that the Big South will get two teams in the playoffs.

We've played this game before when it comes to playoffs and come up short each time.

As I said above, we will be favored in just about every FCS game going forward this year save Richmond and Coastal Carolina. if we beat the Spiders in Lynchburg, the likelihood is extremely high that we will be 9-2 heading down to Myrtle Beach with 8 D1 wins. While I'm sure bluejacket probably thinks everything he types is pure journalistic gold, I really agree with you BYD in the fact that if we only have 1 FCS loss against Coastal, I think we get in this time around

There is no better example of how a homer becomes a troll in the same sentence. There is absolutely no need for this kind of journalistic addendum. And if you think it makes you a better writer or communicator, you are wrong. It just makes you more annoying to read. Make your point, defend your position, stop with the silly attacks.

How we can sum it up. If we play like we did in the first 40 minutes of the UNC game against the rest of the teams on the schedule no way we miss the playoffs. If we play like we did the last 20 we don't deserve the playoffs.

Why worry about an at-large bid when we have an automatic bid to claim?

You are new to the LU-Big South experience so you don't have the battle scars of being the 5-time defending champion with no playoff bids. Unless we win the league outright (which no team has been able to do the last three years), then the odds of us getting into the playoffs through the auto bid are negligable. Our league gets no respect from the selection committee, so you have to have a resume above reproach to earn an at-large. We've never pulled that off despite coming close several times.

Cause we play a top five team on their field - a place we've only won at one time ever.

Fine...

This game is one I had planned on going to as soon as the schedule came out. this is I think the first time we have had a game in the 757 since the infamous William and Mary 2OT game. I went to the game in 05 and I was pretty embarrassed that day. I think you could fit the number of red clad fans at Dick Price Stadium that day on a ggreyhound bus...maybe. hopig to see a ton more red this weekend
