Got anything to back that up? (Just for the record that's how I treat most any news I hear.)

Yeah, he's been our unbelievable Florida connection that has brought us a ton of talent over the years. Congrats to Coach Skalaski ... He'll leave really big shoes to fill.

Bad timing to lose your recruiting coordinator. Glad he took the risk to stay around an extra month.

I think it was a classy move of Skalaski to make the move now instead of waiting till after signing day. You see that all the time, a coach leaving on Feb 2nd or 3rd when the deal was made two weeks prior but the head coach wanted to make sure the recruits signed before a coach left. Classy work by Skalaski and Gill.

I think our recruiting will be fine. We now have a direct connection to the NFL. This will also help recruiting.

Now onto the next topic. Now that Skalaski is headed to Jacksonville, who do you think will get an opportunity to make the camp roster from our last senior class?

Actually that month was invaluable to helping our new staff transition in. And hopefully the kids he has made connections with in Florida stick with us since he is not going to another school.

I'd think several kids would get an extra look including Mike, Chris & Tommie. Of course, Matt is going to get an invitation somewhere as well.

After watching the NFL this season, it would be highway robbery if Bevins doesn't make a roster.

Bevins had a terrible year. Couldn't get healthy at all and I mean he's a kicker. How do you get hurt? Just stretch! Is he full strength yet?

Seriously? I mean I dont think its as simple as taking a couple extra minutes in pre practice stretching routine...and even if he did, he STILL could have gotten hurt.

There is a little more to it than that

BuryYourDuke wrote:I think the goal posts are a different size in the NFL than in college. I think Bevins career long was in that NC State game, which was 51 right? He will for sure get a look, but it seems like NFL kickers are expected to have 50 yard range, and be just about perfect inside of 40. I think he will get a good shot, but he will need to be healthy, and have all of his range and accuracy at the top of his range.
In 2010 Bevins closed out the year w a 52 yard fg against Coastal and a 50 yard fg against stony brook (both successful) .. College and nfl uprights are the same (though hash mark locations on the field are different) .. I agree he'll need to be healthy but am hopeful we'll see him on the field in the NFL next year.

I'll take Bevins as the Redskins kicker any day over who we have now.

Since this is a thread about Coach Skalaski, just thought I would say a word about him since he was a major factor in our son Josh's decision to play at Liberty (OL '05 - '09). Being from Florida and near Gainesville where he played as a Gator, we had a natural connection with him and hit it off from the beginning. As a recruiter, Charlie was a truly class act. We met a lot of other Coaches and recruiters that needed to take recruiting lessons from him. He was always a gentlemen and a tremendous representative for Liberty. His recruiting abilities will certainly be missed. But in addition, Coach was a great influence, role model and example of how to live for Christ in the sports world. As parents, we will be forever grateful for his role in the life of our son. #trulygoodman

Awesome insight, flafan. That seems to sum up the thoughts of many attached to the program.

Charlie Skalaski III rejoins football staff

He has been hired in the newly formed position of Director of Player Personnel. IMHO this is a big hire for our program. No offense to Marshall Roberts or any of our other coaches but Charlie is one of the best recruiters around, especially in talent rich Florida, where he is so highly regarded he puts us in the running for players who otherwise wouldn't give us a look.

Kettie Fickter, who was also hired as his assistant, is an LU grad with an impressive resume in her brief career.

Charlie is a phenomenal recruiter in Florida. Having him back out working the Sunshine State with the fresh credentials from his Jags stint is a serious boost for us. His son remains on the staff as well.
