Lunsford suspended

I know it was mentioned in Echols thread, but I have been able to confirm that Lunsford has been suspended the first 2 games next year. Here's the article where it was first reported - http://www.hollandsentinel.com/article/ ... z2sZCV6RXJ

It was one note in our News & Notes post from this morning - http://www.libertyflamesnation.com/news ... tion-2714/

Shane Blanchard and Echols will compete for the starting job for the first 2 games. Echols does not punt, meaning Trey Turner will likely be the punter to start the season. When Lunsford is back, he will compete for the starting punter spot as well.

So, Lunsford could win all 3 specialist jobs - kicker, kickoff, punter.

The UNC game likely wont come down to a kick. Norfolk state however could.

During the training camp updates, it was mentioned that John Lunsford wasn't practicing with the team and remained in Florida at that time. Now that the Fall semester has started, is there any reason Lunsford WOULDN'T be practicing with the team during his 2-game suspension?

Avery Echols looks really good. He'll be more than capable of taking over for Lunsford on kickoffs. The question will be whether he can perform better in placekicking duties.

IIRC Lunsford always had the leg but seemed to get a case of the shanks mid year

that'll make you dispensable quick

Last season he went 8-19. They were often very long kicks (capable of making them), but inconsistency issues began during freshman year.

Was reading Lang's post and he said that Lunsford was under a "academic suspension" for the first two games.

Guys, any answer to my question?

Lang or manson (or maybe bluejacket) may be able to better answer, but I'm guessing that was a coach's decision to keep from distracting from the two looking to fill in for him.

Yeah, I'm not talking about Training Camp. Lunsford was in Florida.

I am talking about right now. The semester has started, the guy's in school. I was just wondering if there was any reason why during his two-game suspension that he would not be practicing with the rest of the team.

Do the coaches have him regulated to individual work or is he practicing with the Special Teams unit?

He's here. He's practicing. But Echols is getting the live reps, as it should be.

Any predictions for this week?

Who does kickoffs?

Who does FGs and PATs?

Is this the week that Lunsford wins back his position and begins to redeem his college career?

If the game turns into a blowout like last year, I hope TG will give each guy a chance to kick FGs in a game situation.

I can't figure out if Lunsford is the real deal or if Mike Minter just hyped him too much in 2012.

from one of the many quotes we got from HCTG it sounds like LUNSFORD would have to beat out ECHOLS to get his job back

they said it would be an open competition thru Thurs practice then the staff would decide

my guess is you let Lunsford boom it on kickoffs but let the kid kick when accuracy actually matters.

No contest if lunsford has legs back under him on kickoffs, and if his accuracy is back another weapon to have and the youngsters will hv to battle it out next year. Or Lunsford for deep and Echols Blanchard short fgs

Kickoffs - Lunsford
FGs & PATs - Echols
FGs 45 yards+ - Lunsford
