There has to be more to this story.

I agree. One has to wonder what led to this particular decision, and we may not get a complete answer until next Wednesday

Im sure there is, if he can get in Monmouth he can get in LU. Don't know how we would know more next week, he is probably moving on without a thought about LU till maybe when we play them next year.

I mean you have to wonder what the coaches have been working on (particularly at the LB position) that would lead this kid to commit elsewhere

Agreed. Lb was a definite area of need. Our good fortunes have taken several hits recently with dalton kitchart and now this kid.

I know sly doesn't update as often as Manson and Duke do, but something tells me that we may see one or two of the boys from that list on signing day, so that maybe drove him elsewhere.

Call me arrogant, but I kind of assumed that if these kids end up at places like Monmouth or Mercer, then we weren't really all that interested in them. I could be wrong – it's happened before

Then arrogance will get you beat, by no means does or should one playoff all of a sudden mean they should now be sticking their chest out. Next, if he wasn't that good I'm
N the first place we never should have offered.

They may have been 2 or 3 on our depth chart recruiting at that position.

Remember coach, we aren't in the "war room discussions" for a lot of these kids, especially as we are literally a week away from signing day. If you seriously think that arrogance came into play here, well...I don't know what to tell you.

Pls, speak of what you know, not what you think. Yes, I hate to tell you there are "war room discussions" about these kids, how do you think they are ranked, just pick a name out a hat. No, they talk about all these kids and where they "rank" on there board. Like I said, if you didn't think he was good enough then he should have been put on that second tier fallback list, but instead he was offered which means that he was "WANTED". Next thing is hmmm, let me see how many linebackers do we have and or need, im sure there is 1-2 that may pop up that we may not know about or have heard about come signing day. But then again what is there to say that those kids may turn out to be better than that kid, you can trust and believe that he will and any kid would have a little chip on their shoulder come that particular game day against that particular team.

It happens in the NFL about where a person falls in the draft, so I know that it happens on this level where a kid wants to prove he should have been at this place or that place, and I also know for a FACT that coaches remember and try to prove why a kid didnt get to come to their school as well. In this particular case lets just remember its not like we blew Monmouth out the water this year like we did the first time, and there scholly level is now on par with everyone else's so the talent level will start to equal out. I'll end it by saying this, just because these coaches go out on these recruiting trips and decide which kids end up "fitting" their particular system per say, some of these coaches(not saying LU) but in general their picks don't always pan out, and then who gets the blame, its not the coaches, THEY blame the kids, ALWAYS.

This kid probably had an offer at one point that was revoked when another kid committed. But how can you go from a UVa commit to potentially landing at Monmouth? That's the story I would love to hear.

It could be the same story that is being bandied about with the other current verbals we have that had FBS offers and chose LU, so would you say the "drop off" is comparable, or did it occur that some kids may not do as well in bigger classroom settings and smaller ones would be more beneficial, even tho I think I remember my kid telling me he had like 700 ppl in his psych class, lol.

Plus that doesn't sound right when we are supposedly still looking for LB's, right?

I agree. There is more 'there' there

For the record coach, I am not saying that these discussions aren't happening, just that there is probably a lot more that goes on than may be led on based on public information. All we know for 100% certain is that we offered this kid after he decommitted from UVa and at the end of the day, he committed to Monmouth, a team we beat.

Yes, we did but that margin is closing. It was great to beat them when they were undermanned, but lets see how things are when we both are at full scholly levels. Yes, I hope we win, but I look at the big picture as well. I just think the kid could have helped here alot, but the ones who actually make the decisions felt differently. End of discussion.

It closed last year. One of three things happens next year up in NJ:

1) we lose
2) we win, but the margin gets incrementally smaller
3) we blow them out again

Football isn't a linear game. It ebbs and flows, and scores oscillate up and down from game to game, much less year to year. I am curious to see if they can build on last year, but I dont think this will be another Stony Brook situation
