The big question for me is, can LU win bigger against VMI than UVa did against them (49-0)? I respect VMI and love their campus, but let's show them that they really do deserve to be back in the SoCon.

When Richard Wright entered the Liberty football program as a walk-on in 2009, no one would have guessed he’d be where he is today. After redshirting his freshman year, Wright has played in every game of his Liberty career, becoming one of the Flames most valuable players.
“It’s been awesome, the Lord has had favor on me” Wright said of his Liberty experience, “I couldn’t ever ask for it, but he’s blessed me with an opportunity here the last four years of my life. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.”

The Virginia Military Institute is not one of the better teams in the Big South this year. In fact, they were handily beaten by North Greenville, an NCAA Division II team, 37-24 earlier in the year. Still, despite all their current failures, one player has been breaking out and giving them hope for the future.
That player is sophomore wide receiver Samuel Patterson. Last season, as a true freshman, Patterson saw very limited playing time, catching six passes for 61 yards and no touchdowns. He started this year off slowly, as well, but lately has broken out in a big way.

Liberty (4-4 overall, 1-1 Big South) and VMI (1-7, 0-3) meet for the 12th consecutive season on Saturday at Williams Stadium. The Flames lead the overall series 9-3 and have won the past 7 meetings. With VMI’s pending departure from the Big South to the Southern Conference following the 2013 season, this could be the last meeting on the gridiron between the 2 schools.
