Gotta give the boys credit for a shutout and a hard played game. Would have been pretty easy for them to come in and lay an egg, they showed some mental toughness today.

For those complaining about the call just before halftime - UVa ran the ball from the 2-3 yd line with 6 seconds left before the half and no timeouts. Got stuffed and no points. I'll take our coaching any day over some of the stuff going on up there.

I actually wonder if some of the folks here are kind of disappointed in the win... crowing about how bad we are and how Gill is the wrong man, and we shut out GW. Tuned in from Snowshoe for the final 5 minutes. Sounded pretty solid, and I'll take this shutout over our last shutout against Kentucky Wesleyan in 2011 anytime.

I always took you for an intelligent person...

Of course, you do always try to play devil's advocate, so that explains it.

There are maybe 1 or 2 posters who are calling for it and they probably didn't like him to begin with.
Maybe #5 should be 'We ALWAYS play the VICTIM card"

There were sure a lot of whiny posts on the Gill thread. I think it actually reflects what SJ was saying on his latest thread.
When there are folks jumping on the QB when part of a quote is highlighted, I am reminded that most of these guys are probably college age guys who drank the kool-aid and are now disillusioned. Few have been around from the early years and realize how far we have progressed. This was a great win for Gill and the team; maybe it will change some of the naysayers' perspectives.

So what you are saying is you can't actually find anyone saying that Gill should be fired and are hoping to deflect the discussion somewhere else. Well done Jay Carney

Beating gardner webb doesnt prove a thing. It was a nice win and probably the best road win under gill. Weve beat up on gdub for years nothing new there. Nobody is calling for gill to be fired, its amazing how many times thats been said yet there is still people who continue to say that. The problem is there is nobody on our schedule left that proves anything beating them other than maybe csu. Yawn.

We're 27-3, well now 28-3, against Big South teams not named Coastal since 2006. So, beating GW, or anyone else on the rest of the schedule will not turn anyone's head. GW and CSU are phony "good" teams. I'm not trying to take anything away from the win, it was solid, but it will not get many responses from the majority of people. We had our chances, but let them slip through our fingers.

This is a ridiculous post. There was like 1 poster kind of hinting at getting rid of Gill, other than that nobody has said we should can him. The general feeling seems to be Gill needs at least 3 to 4 years before we can judge his job performance as a whole. Reading comprehension, its a beautiful thing. I guess we all read into things what we want to see at times.

With that out of the way. Very happy with how we came out and played on defense. The defense could of very well thrown themselves a pity party and given up. They clearly met the challenge today and shut GW out. Strong performance. The offense was a bit shaky but not terrible either.

Happy with the win and I still hope we can win out

Agreed, actually we should win the BSC almost every year without exception. CCU is a good FCS team, but no way a top 10 team. They have beaten only a couple of decent FCS teams, and we had them beat, until we choked it up. Their defense is obviously suspect, QB is very average and they have a great RB. Once the playoffs start, we will see they are very average. I don't believe they could beat any of the teams we lost to, with the exception of maybe Richmond. I believe they would easily lose to JMU, W&M, Towson, Montana, EW, Delaware, Maine, YSU, Northern Iowa and several others. (if you don't think the rankings are totally laughable, Chuck South is ranked 25th). We had the perfect offensive game plan, and just didn't execute when it counted.
All that being said, the guys played a very good game today. I was impressed with their ability to put last week behind them and play an excellent defensive game. Now if we can get Woodrum to throw those long passes with just a little bit of accuracy.

More Shoulda Coulda :brownbag If Coastal is just mediocre what does that make us? They didn't 'almost win' they actually DID win.

It makes us even more mediocre than they are. I am not trying to make us look better by making CCU look bad. They are obviously a better team than we are, they won. What I am saying is that they are a good, far from great, FCS team, and no way a top 10 team. Thus my comment, that we should win the BSC almost every year, Currently they are our only real competition and they are just not that much better than us. I would say the talent level is pretty equal, (not like the difference between VMI and CCU), we just haven't learned how to win yet. Thus the frustration by many here, me included. They have gotten it done, we haven't, but it is not because they are the third or even tenth best team in the country. We must learn how to win, not be good losers.

Discontent and questioning whether Gill is right for the job is close enough for me. The level of discontent and handwringing on here is worse than normal. Comparing me to Jay Carney is stupid, but I'm realizing this might be par for the course when you disagree with someone.

'Close enough'? Really? So you make a claim that people want Coach Gill fired. You get challenged to back it up with facts but can't so you try to change the subject. When you get called on THAT you move the goal post and redefine what what people actually said, then try to shift the focus on the person asking the question as opposed to the question itself. Pretty much what the White House Press secretary does daily.
So, one more time Mr Carney, ' We know there is discontent with some aspects of the program, but you stated that 'some folks' think 'Gill is the wrong man'. Would you tell us who those people are that have said that?

Perception is often reality. If there was no question that Gill is the right man, why is there a thread that asks otherwise? Maybe you can't see the same things, since you seem to be one of the people somewhat discontented (no more moral victories) with the path that LU is on. As much as you want to make this personal, I will not take that path. I've been around the system longer than you and have seen this play out in other areas. I don't need to defend myself, and if you need to think of me as Jay Carney, and it makes you feel better, that's fine.

He hasnt been here long enough to decide one way or the other which was the general feeling in the thread you are talking about. THe way you're talking the whole board was calling for his head which is completely inacurate. Admit you were wrong and move on. It happens.

love me a good fight on a sunday am

anyhoo.

watched the replay on ESPN 3 after work and was impressed with a road shutout. i knew it had been a while since we did that vs a D-I team; MANSON/DUKE confirmed it hadnt happened since @GW in '07 or something.

nice to see the D step up, esp the D-line with a ton of sacks. SIGMON was- well, SIGMON. Again. love that kid.

I was underwhelmed with #6, esp in the first half. Those overthrows were brutal. I don't know whats going on there- he had been better with accuracy, so I thought. And is it just me or does he have a weird throwing motion. Quick, over the top sometimes.

the stuff to Apon, esp up the seam- was beautiful. Feed that beast and he will roll downhill baby. Shame we waited this long to figure that out.

nice to see Gagliardi get some looks too.

rushing... meh. But GW's D isnt awful either so that wasnt to surprising. Just think Woodrum needs to go back to work on the deep ball.

nice win tho. on to the next one.

Yeah, I'm a no moral victory guy at this point. Related to another thread maybe there are too many who are and that holds us back.
But again, you have not named anyone of the multitude of folks you say want Gill fired. Instead you attack the questioner without answering the question and attempt to redefine what words mean. I agree with Postie, admit you were wrong in your assumption and move on.
