With Liberty entering its 25th season as a Division I football program this season, I thought it would be fun to put together a list of the top 25 players in Liberty's Division I history.

When nominating a player (or players), include their name, what position/positions they played, and years at Liberty (cannot have completed their career prior to 1988). I'll do the research (with help from the sports information department) and run a countdown on my blog in the last five weeks leading up to the opener against Kent State August 29.

Im aware of all the work that is going on in preparation for the 2013 season (and of course the Big South baseball tournament going on as we speak), as well as the fact that he is the head man of the whole athletic communications departmentI just thought it would be a nice idea because its a significant anniversary in this history of the football program this year. If you didnt like the idea you could have just said so

I'm not sure if Kelvin played in the DI era. If he did, he would be a shoe-in alongside Eric Green. I believe Wayne Haddix may have played a season of DI but I could be wrong. The first few teams under Sam had lots of great talent. But obviously the more recent seasons are the names that will be most familiar to our posters.

Dare I add a kicker to the list ... Matt Bevins?

Kelvin was definitely early '80s so he was not D1. Maybe we should have a separate category for the pre-D1 players. There were quite a few great ones. Kelvin, Freddie, John Sanders, Mark DeMoss and Bill Kagey (both great kickers), Basso, etc.

Pat Calvary Defensive Back 2005-2008

Mike Godsil Center 2005-2008

Mike was probably the best center Id seen in my years at Liberty. I think I could count on one finger, one hand at most, the number of times they messed up the QB-Center Exchange and led a line that allowed 27 sacks from 2006-2008 after allowing 26 total in 2005
Are we back?

Nice! Here is to hoping we can live bot free.
