With Liberty's 25th anniversary as a Division I-AA/FCS program coming up this year (Liberty officially entered Division I football September 1, 1988 according to the football guide), I got to thinking that maybe a Top 25 countdown would be a great thing to do. Thing is, Im not sure whether to do a countdown of the Top 25 players or Top 25 games in our D-1 history. Suggestions?

Hey BJ, Please stick with the 25 top players. I fear that a top 25 game list might included LUs escape from Treasure Island!

I was leaning toward top 25 players personally but thought Id give top 25 games some thought.

I'll post a nomination thread here in a bit and drop a note to Mr Wetmore over in the SID office about it and maybe get some help with stats to help get the ball rolling

I love Gus. Probably one of my favorite players that played at liberty. Strong arm and great athlete. Probably could have made basketball team too, but I'm not sure he had enough around him to elevate him to top 25 level.

He had arguably the best stable of backfield talent in the history of the school.

But did he have good receivers and good tight ends to throw to? I know he had great RBs, but handing the ball off is not what makes QB's great...

If the defense is geared to stop the run, the QB should be that much more effective with even 1/2 way decent receivers

But does he have the stats to be considered one of the top 25 players of all time at Liberty?

Sep 9, 1995 was our own version of "Punt, Bama, Punt." It was our first meeting with (then DII) VMI. We lost 30-51 in Lexington. I am not sure how well my memory holds up, but I believe that VMI recovered three onside kicks.
Are we back?

Nice! Here is to hoping we can live bot free.
