Gill Adds Henderman to 2013 Signing Class
The day before Liberty's final spring practice workout session, Flames Head Coach Turner Gill has announced the signing of Michael Henderman to a national letter of intent for the upcoming year.
Along with 21 players signed on National Signing Day on Feb. 6 and the addition of Dexter Robbins (LB) the following day, Gill's 2013 signing class now includes 23 members.
"We are very excited to sign a player of Michael's caliber this late in the recruiting process," commented Gill. "He is a big and strong athlete, who can help us build depth for the future on our offensive line."
Henderman (6-3, 310) comes from a storied Sandy Creek High School football program out of Tyrone, Ga. The Patriots won three state titles during Henderman's career, first claiming an AAAA title in 2009 (14-4), followed by AAA championships in 2010 (15-0) and 2012 (15-0).
During his four-year career at Sandy Creek, Henderman helped the Patriots post a 56-2 record and the team is 67-3 since 2008. Sandy Creek has won the last five Region 5 titles and was Fayette County champion in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Henderman is a three-year letterwinner and he transitioned into a starter's role as a sophomore. He started a total of 22 games during his high school record, mostly at defensive tackle. Gill intends for Henderman to help the Flames on the offensive side of the ball as part of Liberty's developing offensive line.
The Flames will hold their final spring practice, tomorrow afternoon, at Williams Stadium, which will be the last time Liberty practices as an entire team before its August training camp.
Liberty opens its 2013 schedule on Aug. 29 with a Thursday evening game at Kent State, the Flames will kick off a seven-game home schedule against Monmouth on Sept. 7.
