Fan the Flames 2013 Spring Outlook: Linebackers

Following a stellar performance from the defense in the spring football game (and a hiatus to help with my wife who is having some trouble with the pregnancy...check the Chapel for an update on that), we continue looking at the defense with a look at the second level:

Players Lost:

Chase Griffiths
Thomas Nelson
Demetrius Ward

Players Returning:

Zach Erickson
Dallas Griffiths
Scott Hyland (2012 Second Team All Conference)
Dylan Lewellyn
Jimmy O'Grady
Bobby Partilla
Zach Schreiber
Nick Sigmon (2012 First Team All Conference)

Itll be the two local products again leading the way in the linebacking corps as Sigmon, from Northside High School and Hyland, from LCA, will no doubt be starters again in 2013. Sigmon came on like gangbusters after a head injury against Wake Forest and calmly finished third on the team in tackles. Hyland continued to build on his 2011 campaign where he made one of the plays of the year against Presbyterian, by finishing second in tackles (first in assisted tackles) and earning all conference honors. Lewellyn, younger brother to 2012 senior Bryant, will be out from his brother's shadow after both walked onto the program (Bryant in 2008 and Dylan in 2010). The other family affair sees Chase not on the roster this year and younger brother Dallas, who signed in 2012, getting a chance to move into the rotation. O'Grady, who has battled injuries the last couple seasons, could compete as well if he can stay healthy for the entire season. Partilla, who was out with injuries much of last year, will be another one to watch. With only two linebackers coming into the program in the fall (Dexter Robbins and John Nick Setterlind), and Chris Mayo converting to LB, this will be a very veteran group that could make a lot of plays.

I don't think Nick Sigmon does anything calmly.

Andrew Jauch has also moved to LB and is in the lead for a starting role from what I've seen at practice. This will be a fun group of kids to watch this season.

Is John Nick Setterlind still coming or is he a grey-shirt?

He is still coming. With him being listed as an ATH I must have missed him going over the signees. I'll adjust the OP and make sure to include him at LB in August.

This is backed up by Damien's write up in the N& A today:
Andrew Jauch used a solid spring to jump to the top of the SAM linebacker depth chart, edging out two linebackers who Gill is very high on — Bobby Partilla and Chris Mayo.
