With the spring game next week I thought Id take a look at the positions coming out of spring football, and as always start with the triggermen for the offense:
Players Lost:
Brian Hudson (transferred to Campbell)
Players Returning
Javan Shashaty
Josh Woodrum
With Hudson, the "wildcat quarterback", heading to Campbell with new head coach Mike Minter, there are only two QBs from last year's roster competing for time this spring in 2012 Big South Freshman of the Year Josh Woodrum and preferred walk-on Javan Shashaty. Following his performance last season, the Cave Spring product can safely be put at the starter here, the question though will be who will back him up. Shashaty as the only other QB taking reps in the spring that can play this fall (Campbell transfer Cory Benedetto will sit out the year due to NCAA rules) makes sense here, but prize signee Stefon Masha will get a chance to earn himself a spot when new players arrive this summer. That battle will probably be one to watch but Javan will certainly will have an early advantage thanks to the spring reps.
