How did coaches snag this kid! He's a one man wrecking crew. I assume that his original offer fell through and / or his dad played a major part in him coming to Liberty.

He certainly was all over the stat sheet for his senior season:
At least we know there won't be any forest fires, or probably fires in Forest, for the next few years...

That is one of the coolest HS nicknames in America. Right up there with the Progreso Fightin' Fire Ants here in Texas.

I'm glad someone picked up on that. I've laid some good ones down recently that people just walked on by!

I was thinking this entire time that it was amazing that there was a Sevierville in TX that had a team nickname that matches the area of the Sevierville in TN. So typical of a Texan to "accidentally" write TX instead of TN in his profile. You guys are so obsessed with yourselves. It makes the whole state off putting.

My son played against him last few seasons. He is the real deal. Very exsplosive, excellent tackler, and can fly. Torbush is the one responsible for his recruitment.
One you really missed on was the QB, Ty Ryan's from Cherokee HS. He was best QB in East TN.

Uh, it was a typo. I will not argue with the assertion that Texans are arrogant. But this has more to do with my fingers automatically hitting X after T from typing my address than some intent to subtly claim the world as our own. We already have plenty enough space down here. We're like a whole other country. Haven't you heard?

That's because everything else is coming here and doesn't want to leave.

You can never have too much speed. Even if he isn´t ready to earn PT at LB right away, he should be a BEAST on special teams!

Dexter Robbins signs scholarship papers with Liberty University Thursday afternoon at Sevier County High School. With Dexter are his parents, Allen and Jachar Robbins, and his sister, Sierra.
SEVIERVILLE — As high school football players around the country signed letters of intent during Wednesday’s National Signing Day, Sevier County star linebacker Dexter Robbins waited.
With no offers coming in, the 6-foot, 210-pound linebacker was unsure where he’d continue his football career — which has been remarkable during the past seasons with the Smoky Bears.
Then the phone rang.
It was Carl Torbush, linebackers coach of the Liberty University Flames, and the team’s head coach Turner Gill.
Love this kid's attitude. Maybe the second coming of Nick?

He certainly has Nick's ball-hawking ability, which is a good start.

I don't know what's going on with themountainpress.com but I clicked on that story and a warning popped up saying something about malicious software and shortly after my gmail account spammed everybody I've ever emailed. That really sucked.

A broken back and wrist all in the same year as a sophomore? Wow...
Weighing 210 after putting on 30 lbs. is a little troubling for me though at the LB spot. Don't get me wrong, I saw the video and the kid has a nose for the ball, but usually your run stoppers at the LB spot weigh 230+ at the collegiate level. I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned as potential competition at the SS spot. A nose for the ball, not afraid to hit, and 4.4 speed computes to SS to me.

lets see how he does working with "Kill Bill". Im sure that he can help him put on some good weight for the LB position if that is where the coaches see him playing once he gets here

Let me begin by saying how excited we are to be one of the newest members of the Flames Family. LU had long been Dexter's pick over any other school. Dexter played the Mike LB as a soph and junior weighing 165lbs and 175lbs respectfully. The winter after his junior year he was on a mission to put on weight, this about killed our grocery bill. He did it the right way... High Protein and living in the weight room. He busted it in the spring during track to be able to maintain his speed, which he did. We met Coach Gillispie on our second visit. I believe he and Dexter will get along great. We thank God for the opportunity that Dexter has been granted and we appreciate all the kind comments. GO FLAMES!!!

Keep in mind this is a very different defense than the 3/4 we were used to under Rocco where big linebackers were needed. Chris Mayo will be playing outside linebacker this year at about 210 or 215. He played it a good bit at the end of last year when he was about 205.

Welcome to the board, CC_Indian! We're jazzed to have your son becoming a part of our squad. I love when we land guys with great instincts & based on the videos that certainly applies with Dexter. Congratulations!
