Liberty Gets a Football Transfer

Quarterback Cory Benedetto announced via twitter he has enrolled at Liberty.

Benedetto comes to Liberty after spending his freshman year at Campbell. Benedetto did not play in his only season at Campbell. Cory is 6'1" 210 lbs and is originally from Rochester, New York where he attended the Aquinas Institute.

He redshirted the 2012 season and he will have to sit out the 2013 season. But he should have three years of eligibility remaining.

He'll essentially slide into the same class alongside Javan Shashaty. With Josh having three years of eligibility to go the odds of any kid transferring in and getting serious snaps is limited barring injury.

I was wondering about that. If we had a Jr. or Sr. QB it would be different, but we've pretty well got our QB slot fixed for a while, unless this kid can win the job in the preseason or something.

Of course, I thought that we had Mike Brown's successor fixed in stone too, and look what happened there.

I think we can safely assume that he is a walk-on. Campbell was non-scholarship as well.

Masha will probably RS his first year on the mountain and with this kid sitting out due to transfer rules, we are looking at only 2 QBs (Woodrum and Shashaty) with Henderson probably moving into the "wildcat" package unless they decide to shift him back to QB fulltime to give us a third option in spring ball and next season...that's just my observation though

Benedetto´s career as a Flame consisted of one Spring training. He is no longer enrolled, and according to a tweet from FlamesNation, he is transferring.

I said this in another thread but news of his transferring after spring practice (his only time in a Flames uniform) shows us either how bad he is or how much Shashaty has improved while redshirting and getting reps this past spring. No doubt this sort of thing will give some pause to D2, D3 and NAIA schools that he reaches out to as to where he will land this fall, if anywhere
