AFTER HAVING TO SWITCH JUNIOR COLLEGE PROGRAMS, GOCHENOUER, TREMBLAY SIGN WITH FOUR-YEAR SCHOOLS

American River College linemen Cody Gochenouer (left) and Josh Tremblay — former standouts at Napa and Vintage high schools, respectively — share a laugh after one of the Beavers’ games this past fall. Both signed with four-year programs Wednesday.

Josh Tremblay and Cody Gochenouer didn’t give up on football when Solano Community College, citing budget constraints, dropped its program in March.

They were heartbroken and feeling down and out when news broke that the Solano governing board voted to eliminate the school’s program for the 2012 season.
Here's the best part ...
Gochenouer signed with Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., and will also transfer mid year. Both players are receiving athletic scholarships.

The signing ceremony involving seven players was held in the ARC Hall of Fame area of the gymnasium.

“From the time they got on campus, they demonstrated tremendous work ethic,” said Haflich. “Both very different in their style of play, both very effective and they fit in very well into our spread offense.

“Our offensive line, collectively, is definitely the engine that drives the train here. We were pleased with both of their work ethic and ability to learn very quickly, adapt to a new system. It’s good to see the reward at the end of the day — it’s very exciting.”

Gochenouer made the All-BVC offense at tackle for Solano in 2011. The Falcons were 6-5, winning the Bay Valley title.

American River was 8-3 this past fall, winning the Valley Conference title. The Beavers, ranked No. 3 in Northern California and using a spread offense with a no huddle system out of the shotgun, lost 41-36 to City College of San Francisco in November in the Northern California Football Association championship game.

“Both of them did tremendous jobs all year long,” said Haflich. “Each did a very different role within that same group of offensive linemen.

“Cody was steady on the back side at left tackle, held his own, just a very physical guy. Josh had to do a lot of 1 on 1 type of stuff in a lot of our protection schemes. He is also just a tremendous long snapper. Arizona State’s got more than just a tackle there. They’ve got a great long snapper as well. He can really get it done.”

Liberty Head Football Coach Turner Gill has signed Cody Gochenouer, a transfer from American River College, to a national letter of intent with the offensive lineman set to join the program in January.
"Cody is a big offensive lineman, who is physical and athletic," commented Gill about the 6-4, 275-pound addition to his team. "We look forward to him joining our team this spring."

That's for the coaches to decide during spring drills based on our needs after Signing Day. I would assume that he is expected to step right in and either start or be in the rotation from day one.
