4.25 GPA, Columbia offered, my decision would have been made.

Lucas Holder (72), shown here pancaking a Martinsville defender and shielding three others from Carroll County teammate Kody Alley, has been selected to play in the NUC All-American North-South Senior Game on Dec. 22 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Having recently been selected as one of Region IV’s best offensive lineman, Carroll County’s Lucas Holder will now get the opportunity to play against the nation’s best.
A senior left tackle, Holder has been selected along with about 100 other high school seniors to play in the NUC All-American North-South Senior Game to be held Dec. 22 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Really? It'd be hard to turn down a free education at one of the best institutions in the world.

I know they get financial aid based on need, but Ivy league schools don't give athletic scholarships.

I didn't think of that. Looking at Columbia's website, they don't offer any type of academic or performance-based scholarships. Everything is need based. That could make a big difference depending on his parents' financial situation. Many parents are able, but not willing to spend the money to send their kid to an Ivy League school.

This is true, and in many cases the idea that they are financially "able" to pay for most or all of an Ivy League education is deceiving, and makes the parents come off bad if they choose not to because it would in fact strain the limits of their resources. When there are other excellent options which are far less expensive, or even free, IMHO it makes no sense for a parent to risk their financial future and drastically alter the entire families life style in order to send one child to a specific school. This is especially true in the current economy, where a high-priced education more and more frequently is not paying rapid dividends in the form of a high paying job on graduation.

You nailed it olldflame. I hate seeing young people risk their and/or their parents' financial future in order to go to a "prestigious" school. I liken it to $50,000 weddings. Not a good way to start life.

Carroll County senior Lucas Holder, shown here sporting a Liberty University jersey with his high school number 72, verbally committed to play football for the Flames on Tuesday night.
Carroll County’s basketball team scored one of their biggest victories of the season Tuesday night against Oak Hill Red, but it was football that made the biggest news of the night.
Minutes after the Cavaliers rallied for a 59-51 win over the Warriors, senior offensive tackle Lucas Holder, also a center on the basketball team, verbally committed to play football at Liberty University. Holder gave his commitment in person to Liberty head coach Turner Gill, who was in attendance with his assistant head coach, Carl Torbush.
You should take the time to read the whole article: what a testimony about the LU coaching staff!

Is it me or are we going to have 1/3 of the scholarships taken by OL next? Also, any news on Grant?

It also doesn’t hurt that Liberty is highly regarded both academically and athletically.
Is this newspaper on our propaganda payroll?

even after he probably adds some pounds working with Coach Gillespie, I hope he can get down the line for pull or trap blocks quickly and open things for our backs
