Anyone else worried about our options at receiver next season? I know Bj will probably cover this later on in the offseason but I've been pondering it for a while. Hopefully Dante Shells is able to show something next season.

I'll go over it more in depth but we have the following receivers returning for 2013:

DaMarcus Faison (who converted to DB but thats because we were sorely in need of help there)
Branden Francis
Jaquan Glover
Terrell Hackney
Gabe Henderson (unless he gets switched back or something)
Nico Johnson
Ryan McCarter
Darrin Peterson
Greg Pratt
The aforementioned Dante Shells

We will have a lot of unproven guys, but Peterson and Glover both showed flashes so I venture theyll be the top two going into spring ball

I expect Peterson and Henderson to make major breakout years. I am surprised that Pratt hasn't done much. He was a 3 star transfer from Troy. We should be okay but we need some of our recruits to step it up.

WR does look like a possible weakness if someone doesn´t really step up their game. I would think Gill is looking hard at JC or FBS transfer possibilities. Pratt was recruited to Troy as a RB, but never put on the weight he needed to play the position in college, and we ended up moving him to WR. His lack of height is a liability there, and I think even moreso in this offense than Rocco´s. All of the WR we signed last year were over 6 foot.

I really liked what I saw from Petey down the stretch. With he & Gabe starting, we have some nice tools with which to build. Add in Jaquan and a lot of the young guys including some redshirts and we may have all we need already on the roster.

We need a deep threat option next season. Peterson flashed at times, but our roster this year was filled with nothing but a bunch of slot/possession receivers.

Ferguson was becoming a home run for us, but he got injured on the opening kickoff against Concord. I think Jaquan has the ability to be a deep threat, as well as Gabe

It's pretty simple. Gill was effusive in his praise for Gabe all year calling him a "playmaker" and one of those guys you just want to get the ball in his hands. He was behind Dutra all year who really had a pretty solid season and had a leg up because he has spent way more time at the position.

From what I've heard shells looked like he wouldve been ahead of Peterson before he got knicked up. I think we will be fine with Peterson, Glover, Henderson & Shells as the top 4. You never know of the other redshirts or freshman might be able to get on the field.

If we don't get line help it's all moot

Haize, that is very true. Obviously you have Boyd and Stewart coming back along with Hanson. I really think Grant Jones will be ready to make a big impact. Maybe Aarhown Campbell as well.

We have two deep threats in the making; both 6'2' playmakers whom I believe will compete well this spring...Peterson and McCarter.

Go Flames!!!

Gabe could be used effectively as a wildcat option, but when we experimented with it this season nothing seemed to work.

I would love to see Henderson get the ball this season.

The reason it didnt work is because the timing of the wildcat calls was off. We would be rolling on a drive, then run a wildcat play with Gabe and completely kill our drive momentum so we ended up scrapping that. Id like to see him get the ball too, but we need to do a lot of refining work on his package so that it wont be a drive killer next year

I have heard that we may try to bring in a couple junior college transfers at the WR position.

I sure hope so. I wish we would've gotten Brice Butler a year or two ago.
