Much to my surprise, I noticed that Liberty's football program is in its 25th season at Division I this year.

I thought Id take suggestions for maybe putting together a top 5 for Division I games. (I can toss out the idea to our SID folks and see what they think)

My suggestions (not necessarily indicative of where they rank in school history)

1. October 14, 1989- Eric Green catches a Robbie Justino touchdown pass with 11 seconds to go and Liberty scores its first win over a Division I-A (now FBS) program with a 25-24 victory over Eastern Michigan

2. October 4, 2003- Liberty, down 28-3 in the fourth quarter, scores 28 unanswered points, capped by a Dre Barnes (I think...might have been Goodman on that as well) two point conversion to complete the biggest comeback in school history and knock off the Keydets 31-28

3. September 27, 2008- Freshman Matt Bevins drills a 24 yard field goal as time expires to lift the Flames to a 31-28 victory over the #23 Youngstown State Penguins. T

4. November 10, 2007- Liberty broke the 70 point barrier for just the second time in school history as Brock Smith threw for 246 yards and three TDs to lead Liberty to a 73-34 victory over VMI.

5. September 11, 2010- 9/11 was memorable for a different reason for Flames fans as Mike Brown threw for 276 yards and two TDs, the second of which provided the winning points as Liberty registered its second victory ever over a Division I-A/FBS opponent, defeating Ball State 27-23.

I think it was Sam Gado that got the 2 point conversion on homecoming in 2003. If my memory serves right that 4th qtr was the first time Sam got any touches. I remember the students charged the field but there was 1 second left and VMI got a chance at a second hail mary toss. The students had to return the the VMI sideline and wait out the game before charging for a second time. Wild game

Hands down the most exciting game I ever attended at Williams Stadium

That team had 3 of the best RB's in school history. With all due respect to Jennings. Dre was the best of the 3 until he blew his knee out. Eugene and Sam were bigger and stronger and would have set records that the other would have broken if they had all gone to Liberty at separate times

Hands down the most exciting game I ever attended at Williams Stadium

Unfortunately, my friends and I were among the thousands that left early that day. We left to go to a house party on Fort Avenue thinking the Flames had lost again. Later that night we heard what we'd missed.

Yes, that was the best game. I was with my dad, so there was no way we would leave. What a comeback!

Dre may have been the best for sure. As an old timer I feel I must keep the names Greg Mosely and LeRoy Kinard in that conversation though. I for one think DJ Abnar may have a chance to beat them all.

Top 5 worst game ever… I remember one against VMI (it was away, I listened on radio) where VMI recovered several onside kicks in a row to win the game.
