Summers possibly to NE?

Two interesting things have developed since the start of the month. One, the Patriots WR's problems were exposed against NY. They have no vertical or possession receiver, their tallest one is 6'1". We also know that Belichek drafts very well late in drafts.

Secondly, I came across this website from some www.nepatriotsdraft.com who have Summers as a sleeper pick. http://www.nepatriotsdraft.com/2012-nfl ... eper-team/

I don't know anything about the website, so I cannot speak for their validity. However, when I was watching the Super Bowl, I couldn't help but imagine how great Summers could be if he were with the Patriots. It would give them a tall receiver among Welker, Gronkowski and Hernandez.

Well, that's where Vince Redd went as an undrafted rookie. If he goes there, I would imagine it would be under similar circumstances. You also have to watch out for the Pats getting Mike Wallace.

Mike Wallace is going to Pittsburgh. Roethlisberger is already renegotiating his salary to free up room for them to get Wallace. Plus, I think NE will want someone with a little more youth considering they have Ryan Mallet or Bryan Hoyer looking to take over the team in a couple of years. I like the Redd comparison.

Wallace is 25.

I didn't say he was old. I said they would want someone younger. Summers is younger than Wallace.

Why would they take a guy in Summers, who redshirted so the age difference between them wouldn't be that big, instead of a guy who is a proven star and a whopping 25 years old? Age wouldn't be a factor at all there, money would be. To take it a step further, they're not going to make a WR decision based on who will play well with two backups who may or may not become starters at some undefined point in the future.

It's all moot since Wallace will stay in Pittsburgh, but if he were to leave his chances of ending up in New England won't be negatively affected by either his age or who the backup QBs are.

First off, I know you have nothing better to do than to continue arguing on topics when it's clear you've lost. Also, I know at some point or another, you'll criticize me of racism again. So, because this a. shouldn't even be a debate, b. you'll never shutup and c. I have too much time to go back and forth on useless topics, I'm done after this post.

For one, Wallace is 6'0"....Summers is 6'4" My first reasoning for NE getting Summers was because their tallest receiver is 6'1" and they have no vertical receivers. So, them getting Wallace doesn't solve that problem. As you mentioned, the difference in what you would pay for Wallace for how much you could pay Summers is quite obvious. So, we'll agree there.

Lastly, I said someone younger for a reason. Brady is only going to be great for 2 maybe three years max. Meaning, Mallet or Hoyer will be left to take over the team. My guess is they go with Mallet because he's more of a Belichek type of QB. Mallet is 23 and Bellichek will want a WR that Mallet can grow with. By the time Mallet takes over, Wallace will be 28 and probably have a good 2 maybe 3 years left. Summers on the other hand, will be 25 and have a good 5 to 6 years left. Age is a factor. Not as much as height, hands or a 40 yard but it will be a factor.

I'd be highly surprised if Bellichek doesn't take a WR this draft. They'll likely get a pass rusher in the first round, a WR in the second round and then they could steal Summers in around the 6th round. I bet NE has at least 3 new WR's before the start of next season.

Kiper has Liberty’s Chris Summers and South Dakota State’s Dale Moss on his late-round sleeper list.

A couple of the mock drafts I have seen have NE taking Steven Hill in the first round. If they do, I doubt they would spend even a late round pick on Summers.

Sounds like he signed a priority FA deal with the Bears.

I hope he’s able to make the practice squad, however I think his survival rate to make a team would be greater in Miami, Buffalo, Carolina, or Indianapolis. The Bears have Alshon Jeffery, Devin Hester, Jonny Knox, Dane Sanzenbacher, Brandon (the Beast) Marshall. If he is able to outshine Devin Thomas (FA 1 yr contract) he might stick…. If Mike Brown’s 40 time wasn’t so poor he might had made the list too. He was a pretty versatile weapon during his 4 years at Liberty, but I sure he’ll catch on with some team.

I think Chris will have a good chance to make this team because they need WR help. Let's go Chris.
