Yea thanks. To clarify, we are not talking transfers or Off the radar guys. We are talking who did we land as a HS recruit that big dog programs wanted.

Nah, I say grant Jones too and I'm old. I do have one question for those even older than me, was Eric Green a big get?

No argument from this old hag. We had a few players in the early days who probably could have played at a higher level, but I don't think any of them had the major college prospects coming out of HS of the recent signees/commits who have been mentioned here.

Eric Green was a 215 pound WR/TE when he arrived at LU. He was considered a good get, but noone had any idea he would literally grow into a 285 pound TE and first round draft pick.

Spencer Hodges had credentials as strong as the other two Floridians mentioned in the Class of 2012.
We've had a number of 3-star kids over the years including the much-maligned Karcher years. Not all of the higher profile gets have proven to have a big impact on the mountain.
A couple of years ago we had a commitment from a 4-star kid from Florida who switched to the Gators late when they offered him after a 5-star kid had slipped through their fingers.
The majority of our highly touted players have come via FBS transfer.

Sly - at least per Rivals, Spencer Hodges was a two star .. like Demetrius Ward & Josh Woodrum from recent classes.

Spencer was a 3-star 5.6 pr 5.7 rated kid by Rivals before he committed to us. By signing day that ranking dropped. That happens a lot with kids who choose FCS programs over FBS schools.

Sly - I thought that was fan folklore .. where we always remember it a little better than it was; it's interesting that it actually happens - do you think it generally happens when larger schools pull back or don't pursue players to the end? For example w/Grant, from what I can tell his rating remained unchanged but interest from big schools never wained ..

Eric was a former student of mine, and I think he told me he originally came here to play basketball. He said he got MVP in a high school tournament that also featured Pervis Ellison.
I remember Coach Sam saying that it should have been "illegal" for Eric to be playing at the I-AA level.

We were in some PE class together where there were about 10 of us and I was the only non-scholarship football or basketball player in the group (that also had future NFLers Dwayne Haddix & Mark Mathis) and since I was so much smaller than the rest of them he used to call me Batmite. Anybody remember that character on the cheesy '70s Batman cartoons?
I don't remember him mentioning hoops, but he would have been a formidable power forward.

Hold tight ....There will be a 4-5 Star Rivals WR at summer camp that could be one of the top recruits ever considering who is recruiting him now including the likes of MIami, Nebraska, Penn State....Stay Tuned....He was on campus for an unofficial visit back in November.
