Coach Rocco's Thank You Note To Flames Faithful

(from the LU site)

September 1, 2006
Lynchburg, Va.

Fresh off the Flames’ 27-0 victory over St. Paul’s on Thursday evening, Liberty University head football coach Danny Rocco took some time out of his schedule on Friday morning to thank the fans that braved blustery weather conditions to support their football program.

On Behalf of Head Football Coach – Danny Rocco:
I want to take this opportunity to thank the entire student body for their incredible
support. What I witnessed last night was a spirit that is second to none. I LOVE college football!! You all gave Williams Stadium an atmosphere of Big Time College Football. After each and every victory, we will go to the student body and band to sing our schools fight song. Last night was a special night for LU Athletics. Together we can make this a “season to remember”. – Danny Rocco

I have never seen a single sports team at LU reach out to the student body the way Coach Rocco and the rest of the football organization is reaching out....before they never seemed to care about the students....the support from the students is very important and from the sound of things around campus i expect it to continue into this saturday...

any student who has not bought into what rocco is preaching is insane. with SJ's crew and rocco's enthusiasm, it has to be hard not to buy in!

Coach Rocco has certainly laid a great foundation in which to build upon in all the important aspects of a football program. Now we need to see some positive results because of it.

That's gotta be attractive to a hypothetical conference made up of virginia area teams.

I just looked at the numbers again. Has anybody been to Appy St? What is the config. of their stadium that allows them to fill to 140% of their capacity. Do they have something to Williams with hillsides etc?
I definately think it is great that we are almost within 99% of our capacity.

Appy has a large open hillside at the scoreboard end of the stadium. It's fairly crowded on gameday.

kidd brewer stadium is the most picturesque setting for a college football game. they have a hillside that is usually packed, and they also put up temporary bleachers when a big game comes to town. app is a prograam we should try to model ourselves to. good to hear from you libertine!

The ONLY thing I don't like about App's stadium is the track.

For the record, I'm glad to see Coach Rocco has taken the best of the different schools he has worked at over the years. The having the team coming over and sing the school song to the fans after every game comes form Texas (which was then copied by A&M ...Poor Aggies and their burnt orange envy) and 'The Eyes of Texas'. Does the crowd raise its hands all together with the LU hand signs for this? If not, spread the word. It would be very cool.

I liked how they did the thing where the captains and coach lock arms while they're walking out of the tunnel before the run out.

They locked arms like that at UVA

The attendance figures are great for us so far this year. 25th in 1AA amazing considering that we have not beaten anyone of significance. The only question is can we maintain that level for much of the year? History says no with a huge dropoff after homecoming. Last year we went from 11.5K to 3K in 1 week. We just can't have that happen. I just hope that we didn't loose our fanbase going forward after the disappointment last Saturday.

The atmosphere at the game this past Saturday is what will bring people back. Everyone has said that was an amazing atmosphere and they saw how good the team could be.
