Don't know if anyone else saw the weekly television show FSN puts on this past week. They had an interview with Jeff Barber who stated they are looking into adding another football practice facility.

On a related note, it looks like the LCA practice field is becoming a parking lot.

Nice. Yeah, if we are trying to sell ourselves to FBS leagues as a viable candidate then a bubble would be a strong sell showing our commitment.

Boo that. Lets build a real indoor practice facility. We are going big time right? Besides I don't think a bubble fits very well with a Jeffersonian theme.
Kinda serious above but I'd be happy with a bubble for now.

What do we need an indoor facility for? I'm sure it's a standard and therefore we need one, but I don't see why a football team in Lynchburg, VA playing from August to November with the possibility of December would need one.

BC utilizes a bubble over their football stadium which is pretty cool, and it looks very nice but that is a boston winter. Seriously though, i can see where its needed as most FBS programs either have them now, or are building them. The winters can sometimes be tough, but i think its a "keeping up with the Joneses" type of thing.

They are all over down here in Texas and it has nothing to do with the Texan winters.

I have been told by a reliable source that one of coach Gill's requests is two artificial turf practice fields.

That probably has to do with the Texan summers...and football is like a second religion down there.

I'm all for upgrading football but this is something else I don't get. Doesn't this seem like a waste? Practice on the turf we already have in the Bill. And I guess you could put it down over the practice field too if you don't see the need for any grass. But why 2?

It really is about keeping up with the Joneses you just don't practice on the game field unless it's walkthroughs the day before.
It could also be to keep more guys practicings at once. Back in the good old days at Neb Osborne era they'd have 4 fields going at the same time to make sure everyone was getting snaps in. Of course that was when you could have 150+ on a football roster. The fields were all next to each other so TO could always look over his shoulder and see what the 3rd and 4th stringers are doing too.
Also having one inside and one outside would probably just be considered par for the course if we really are dreaming big time.

Yeah, I think it's all about convincing "the powers that be" that we are serious about being big time.

I don't see how it could be a bad thing. At this point, we're at a stalemate with the football stadium until we're ready move to the next phase which doesn't seem imminent. Might as well bulk up some of the practice space.

Having two practice fields is pretty standard fare for most FBS programs and having one of them be indoors is nearly commonplace these days. I remember how novel it was 15 years ago. Today, not so much.
