After a great start to the Rocco era last night, and a few hours of reminiscing. I think it's time to begin to look forward. I don't know much about these guys, but I will look them up and see what I can find. From what I hear, they will be much more of a test, but we should still win by double figures. That's in my opinion, without looking into seeing what Glenville has to offer.

They are, but I think it will be much more of a test than last night.

We'll definitely have our work cut out for us in this game...they seem to be a very good D-II school, handling our past D-II opponents (Concord and WV Tech) very well. The only bad part is that they are D-II and it doesn't make our SOS look very good.

Really? St. Pauls was ranked 15th last year and didn't lose anybody of significance. I hope this team is better.

No, no. St. Paul's wasn't ranked 15th. Their defense was ranked No. 15 in Division II in yards allowed. St. Paul's was 4-6, so it was nowhere near the DII national rankings.

Glenville was much more impressive. They beat Concord 50-15. Liberty beat Concord 17-6.

This team didn't even have a roster until last week. I don't see how they can be that great.

Oh right, I seem to remember the SPC guy saying they had a lot of close losses.

Some facts from Wikipedia

Glenville State College is a small four-year college located in Glenville, West Virginia which is in rural north-central West Virginia. It has about 1,600 students. The primary major is elementary and secondary education, however other majors are available. The Forestry program is considered by many to be world-class.

The school was founded at the Glenville branch of the state normal school in 1872. It became a full four-year college under its current name in 1931.

During the 1990's the school experienced an enrollment decline, leading many to question the future viability of the school. But since 2001, enrollment has seen a small but steady annual increase.

In athletics, the school's teams are known as the Pioneers and compete in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They have teams in American football, basketball, track and field, golf and volleyball.

From the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference website.
Lindy's also honored a pair of Glenville State players as first team All-Americans. Offensive lineman Andrew Dennis (Salvisa, KY, Sr.) paved the way for the Pioneers in 2005 as they averaged 39.8 points and 483.8 yards per game. Defensive back Kashif Ealey (Rand, WV, Sr.) ranked second in the WVIAC with nine interceptions last season. The former Riverside HS standout was a first team All-WVIAC selection in 2005.
Also, from Glenville States officially athletic site:
Glenville State College football team members Tavon McGee and Da Mon Lindsay were recently named to Preseason All-American teams. McGee received the honor from Don Hansen's Football Gazette, while Lindsay received his honor from D2football.com. Both McGee and Lindsay are wide receivers entering their senior seasons.

Glenville State is a small college in a farming community. They allways seem to have a good football team. A lot of good WV high school players go there. Also Glenville State has had some good coaches who have moved on to bigger schools. Glenville State is good, but LU should have no problem winning this game.

Rich Rodriquez, WVU's head coach was head coach at Glenville for a number of years before going to Tulane with Tommy Bowden. When Rich was there they played for the Div. II National Title. They have not achieved that level of success since but are usually a pretty solid DII team.

This seems like the type of game that is no-win. If we win the game, so what? If we lose the game, it's embarassing. It's the same reason folks don't play Southern Illinois in basketball. It's be no means an automatic win and you look bad if you lose. Oh well, I guess all we can do now is win.

Hey...if we win the game, we are 2-0. (That's one more win than last year for all of you who are counting out there.) I think that would qualify as a winning situation.

it really doesn't though. If I'm the playoff comittee, I see you as 0-0.

Disagree - If we beat them like we did St. Paul’s - We will start to get looks no matter who we played. Starting Defense - 3 quarters - 17 Yards. We just have to dominate the scoreboard.

We will be ranked if we run the first 4 games. The committee won't look until the end of the year and by that time we will have respectable schedule to look at. Playoffs will be determined by the W&M, Coastal, WC games. Every other IAA team plays cupcakes - their just aren't enough 1AA schools.

You both have good points. The early season div 2 opponents were to provide an early measure of confidence, kind of a tuneup before the 1AA schedule kicks in to work on the new offensive sets. Right now I don't think the playoffs are a goal, but you never know it is always possible if we go 9-2. Hard to judge their performance agains't a team like St Paul's. Waiting to see what we can do agains't Towson. There is a good possibility that I might be there in the stands (Towson is only 1 1/2 hr drive from my house).

I wondered if you would be making the trip over I-95, steve. It'd be great if we had a good showing of fans in Maryland.

SJ was helping organize some students making the trip. With all of our DC & Baltimore alumni you would think we could get some turnout.

I really like the schedule. St. Paul's was a weaker D-2 team. Next is Glenville, a very good D-2 team. The only thing I wish was that the Savannah State game was before the Townsen (I can't spell) game. That way we could then play a weak I-AA, followed by an average I-AA.

Instead, we have to improve next week, and then REALLY get ready for Townsen, and then avoid a letdown against Savannah State.

But I still like the schedule. Hopefully we can get the kicking game fixed...I did notice that we had a hard time getting the timing of the placekicks, and Beasley's FG didn't look great...It seemed like it barely cleared the O line. Plus, isn't he the punter?

I would be in favor of using one of the freshman. To "unredshirt them" all you have to do is play them, right?

Two DII's, the worst I-AA in the country, and a decent I-AA. We won't be ranked.
