New Mascot is Sparky

Fellas, I got roasted on the old board for even suggesting this name (Proto still kills me about it :D ) But from Chris Lang's article on the game, it seems someone agreed with me. I am not trying to take credit for everything that is going on up there on the mountain but 3 years ago I left them with a spreadsheet that outlined everything from changing the mascot name to getting a curtain that has the Flames logo at press conferences and a whole bunch of other stuff that they are now doing. I guess I didn't have a copyright or anything on these ideas, quite honestly they seemed obvious to me but it is good to see them implement them. I will say I was the first one to mention that we should get the turf we have after I saw Howard university's last Sept. But I digress. Tell Dr. Falwell to send my residual checks to my Lynchburg address!

How would Liberty have ever gotten anything done in recent years without Scar's vision?

Ok, I see someone finally gets me

I hereby nominate Mr. Tim Scarborough as the official athletic arm-chair quarterback to Dr. Jerry Falwell.

I accept that nomination. I prefer Monday Morning QB though  Seriously though, because I am loyal to Liberty I shared my ideas with them thinking they would see my passion, insight and knowledge and create a position for me (other than my TV work). I can email the spreadsheet with a time stamp from 2003 to you guys if you doubt it. Instead they are using my proposal information. I don't mind though I really don't. It is hard to detect tone on a message board but I am serious. I am just glad to see someone finally doing what is supposed to be done. Hats off to the athletic dept.

By the way, the new mascot, at least to me, looks horrible. It has a small plastic/rubber head and the feathers make it look like it's wearing a big skirt. That's why I can't call it a he. And the big "SPARKY" on the back just adds insult to injury.

Apparently the students disagree.

I got a pretty good close-up view of the mascot, and the only part that's plastic is the eyes and beak. The head is fuzzy looking. As far as the name, Sparky, I think it's something that will grow on us, especially if the dude keeps up the way he did last night (That was, by far, the most entertaining mascot we've had). For example, I had a girlfriend in college named Mary Grace. Didn't care for the name much, but she was so cool the name became cool too. But I digress.

Like somebody posted (LUconn, maybe?), his name and look is great for the kids. They were all over him for hugs and such. How cool he acts is what will win over the students.

actually I can only remember 2 years since I've been around where the mascot was not entertaining. One year he really just watched the games. That was lame.

Yes LUconn Paul is the greatest Mascot we ever had for sure. That is why he is a pro (see pic above). I hope last night's mascot will be close to him.

I remember Paul (or at least the mascott he brought to life). He was definately very energetic and got everyone fired up.

Is the new one slated to do community events with the local kids? That's how you get Dad's in the stands, when Junior wants to go to the LUFB game to see Sparky. Plus, extending the olive branch to the community at every opportunity is always a good thing...does he go to the local schools?(Since LU already has a relationship with them by way of the education department placing student teachers.)

Back in the day, he was the only reason I went to a game. He was always in character....I loved it when he would sit next to a young lady, and smooth his "hair" back and try to make a move on her. I also liked it when he rolled his miniature baby buggy out with his teddy bear in it. Didn't he go to the Atlanta Braves and then the Chicago Cubs??

He posts on here from time to time from Chicago where last I heard he was with the Bears.

I'd like to politely protract the "greatest one ever..." statement. I certainly haven't seen them all. Musta just got all caught up in the excitement of my post.

I was NOT drunk when I took this, and you- the viewer- does NOT have cataracts.

It was raining cats and dogs and I took the pic on the run.

SJ stole it from my camera card later in the night

Did you guys know Sparky was on this board? I'm not outing him, but he's here.

Need to get him in the Capital One mascot bowl...guess that will have to wait 20 years or so until D1BS eligible...

Could Liberty have Sparky's facebook deleted? Because it might have said "disabled by an administrator"

They deleted the SFC account a while back because it wasn't an actual person. They still haven't deleted Kristen Hutchens though.
