The first time one of Evangelical Christian School senior John Lunsford’s kicks drew a raised eyebrow was coincidentally on his first series of field goals.

At the end of his sophomore year at ECS, the kicker had booted 30, 40 and 55-yard field goals at a camp at Appalachian State.

Lunsford, who had spent most of his athletic career playing soccer, did not even realize what he had accomplished by sailing a 55-yard field goal through the uprights on his first try.

“I didn’t even know that was good,” Lunsford said. “That was just where they put the ball down for me. It didn’t look far to me, so I just figured I’d give it a shot. The Appalachian State coaches thought it was good.”
Here is the part of interest to us ...
Liberty has offered Lunsford a full scholarship and he will visit Lynchburg on an official visit this weekend.

Same school JVP went to.

Hopefully they continue to spell "Fort Myers" correctly for John, they finally figured it out for Joel. 8)

Always good to see Southwest Florida represented.

Be interesting to see him and Alex (Kacere) battle for the starting kicker position.

That is impressive even if it's off a tee.
It wasn't off a tee. Watch the video, perfect snap, and hold.

I don't think there will be a battle with Kacere. If you compare videos, Lunsford wins hands down.

He also averaged 47 yds per punt in HS and consistently kicked off through the end zone, albeit from the 40. Kacere's kickoffs usually were lucky to be inside the 10.

Dang you're right I should watch the whole video. I just assumed since it was high school.

Another big piece of the class was kicker/punter John Lunsford, who nailed a 58-yard field goal this season on a grass field in high school in Florida. Gill said Lunsford may have the opportunity to handle all three facets of the kicking game: place kicking, punting and kickoffs.

Alex Henery (pronounced HEN-ry) was a fourth-round draft choice of the Eagles in 2011 and went on to have an outstanding rookie season in which he set a team record for field goal accuracy, as well as the NFL rookie record by connecting on 88.9% of his attempts. A first-team All-America selection in 2010, Henery handled the kicking and punting duties at the University of Nebraksa, scoring 397 career points on 68 of 76 field goals (89.5%) and finishing his career as the most accurate kicker in NCAA history.
This guy did in college, to be fair he did share some of the kick off duties with Adi Kunalic who I believe is now with the Carolina Panthers.

When Bevins got hurt (2 years ago?) Larsen stepped in and took over on most, if not all of the other kicking duties.

I believe Larsson got hurt, and Bevins filled in all 3 roles for a few weeks.. After Youngstown State, he took over FG, remained doing Kickoffs, and I believe Larsson missed 4 games? Bevins averaged 41 yards a punt in 4 games

But it does free up a scholarship if he does.

Lundsford has a leg already. Kacare really doesn't seem to have as much. So I think it's a good move to let him have the starting role.
