Sparky

Booooooo!

Is that a dress he's wearing? Is his head made of shiney plastic? I thought we all decided that sparky was a terrible name. Why did they go with the votes for Lu last year and then ignore them this year? That is a terrible cliche name. Why didn't somebody ask me before they did this?

I don't want to be 100% negative on this so I will say he looks a lot better than the old mascot which I guess is the most important part.

See my other post....It was my idea but if you guys don't like it then....It was Smoothie's idea  No really, it will take time but that name will stick. You have to have vision for this sort of thing. Now I can't comment on how he looked because I wasn't there but giving him a cute name for the kids and making mall appearances and stuff will pay dividends down the road. Michigan States mascot looks like a fake Arnold Swartzenegger but his name is SPARTY. Not very tough but he is a household name up there. It will grow on you you'll see.

but they are the SPARTins. which makes more sense. we are the flames. i liked LU... it had something to do with the school. but he does look better and i guess a flame starts with spark so...

I thought it was pretty cool how they brought him out on the field. I thought it was Jerry at first.

Yes and we are the Flames. What starts a flame? a Spark. Plus LU was not catchy, original or creative. LU? Why not LUF (Liberty University Flames)? or LF (Liberty Flames)? No, you guys will see, that name is a keeper.

I'm all for a lame kiddy name because he's mainly for the kids. But at least come up with something that's a little original.

You might not like him, but the students loved him. The name was perfectly fine, the uniform was much better, and the person inside it was a lot better.

I was glad to see the mascot more interactive and animated. First thing I thought of when I saw him was that the kids will like him. Apparently the students do too.

We chanted his name a few times, we went crazy when he got out of the limo, and he interacted with us like a mascot should.

It was GREAT to see him come out of the limo, (we all thought it was Jerry too) and to see him rope the Bengal or whatever it was. Even better when the SPC cheerleaders try to steal it, he won the tug of war. The student section went nuts when that happened.

I thought the new mascot put on a great show. I think he hugged or high-fived every kid in the stadium. He went through the student section a couple times. He was actually entertaining.

What does said mascot now look like...any pictures of that?

here's SJ's picture of him. He must have been moving fast. he looks obese in this picture but it's just because his whole body just tapers out into a dress looking fashion.

I think he looks like a more pleasant version of the Winthrop eagle.

does anybody remember when oregon got a new mascot?

It went from the loveable Donald look-alike

Image

and then I guess in the tradition of what Nike has done to their uniforms, they decided to modernize him...... into a intergalactic space duck apparently

They quickly went back to the old one. From that picture I think they revealed him by hatching him from the egg. Man, I bet they thought they were gonna be so the coolest school in america.

I always thought FLAMERS was appropriate. I know Mel agrees with me!

I know Manger that is what I typed. LU (prounounced Lou) LUF (pronounced Luff) LF (Pronounced Leff). Difficult to convey that in writing.

I was NOT drunk when I took this, and you- the viewer- does NOT have cataracts.

It was raining cats and dogs and I took the pic on the run.

SJ stole it from my camera card later in the night

Could always go with Berny (Burn-y). Anyway, it's great that the kids liked it and from the sounds of it so did the students; but I prefer something more along the lines of the Oregon Duck (the first one, not the tripped out on acid "Mission To Mars" looking one--What's up with Nike, Bill Bowerman would surely be a little baffled by some of its, let's say, designs as of late.) (If you can't place the reference, wikipedia Bill Bowerman, Prefontaine, University of Oregon, etc.)
