Apparently interviewed but turned down the Richmond job that Coach Rocco then accepted. He is obviously the unofficial coach in waiting in Blacksburg but he still lacks any head coaching experience. He's been an assistant at Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Mississippi State before returning this past season to his alma mater to help his dad. He likely wouldn't be interested unless it appeared we had a position in an FBS league.

If he runs a program as loose as his Dad, no thanks. The things those VT kids get away with won't fly at LU. If he's willing to run a tighter ship, and meet school standards, he should have some real contacts in the 757 for recruiting.

Oh, I'm fully aware of what they get away with and it's nowhere near what it was under Rutigliano. I think Eric Green just got expelled/re-admitted on the same day again.

not a hokie fan, but this would be a good hire. Shane has been in the SEC at S.Carolina and Miss State, and is a very good recruiter.

I was more commenting on the fact that if it was important who you were looking for in the coach for LU, youd be on the committee to make that decision. I could say just as much about myself or most of the people posting in these discussions.

Having "high Division I experience" certainly helps, even if it was as an assistant. The name recognition (who doesnt know the name Beamer) would be helpful with recruits as well. What Id be most interested in is whether or not he would be a philosphical fit here, which I think is the $64,000 question.
