If true, this is not the other big team we have a tentative with. This would be a murderous schedule for a rebuilding team.
Yeah but a truckload of cash!

Even if we do get killed, and we probably will, this will be so awesome on multiple levels. If it's true.

Probably getting his fill at the media hospitality room getting ready for the women's basketball game tonight

$$$ makes the world go around.
And wake and VT would bring in some $$$.
Also, young players get to play against the best. That's something I'm for. Look at Presby's basketball team and tell me that playing against the best often hasn't helped them.
Not that anyone's arguing with me, but that's just my opinion.

Not tonight. Not covering it. In fact, I'm going to be pretty scarce for the rest of the year, between furlough and vacation days. I hope to have some scheduling news tomorrow, though I'll admit this is the first I've heard of this particular rumor and I had the AD on the phone today.

You never know, in regards to a potential VT game. Things change all the time, especially in scheduling. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be true.

Of course, Chris would have no interest whatsoever in being paid to cover a game at Lane Stadium. Right?

Wouldn't be the first time I've done it, Sly. Ha.
I've pitched in on two Tech-UVa games there and the Tech-Miami game back in '06, not to mention a game or 12 in the 90s ... I'll be covering the UVa angle once again Saturday up in Charlottesville.

Great, we can't beat Stoney Brook, Liegh or NC State so let's schedule VT...
Remember that recruiting comment as VT dismantles UVA this weekend on national TV.

Did you used to be affiliated with Charleston Southern, by any chance?

ONLY, if we are READY and able to play them tough and keep it close. Otherwise, you can change this post to "SCHEDULING HUMOR" becasue everyone that has been saying LU can't hang will say "I told you so", and your status will be cemented as can't compete with D1.
Let's just start with Wake Forest or someone before we go after the ACC Champs maybe?

BECAUSE IF ITS IN CAP LOCKS IT MUST BE IMPORTANT.
Fear, go and read my comment on Presby basketball. (which btw if you are No Fear, why are you afraid of Tech?) Remember when we used to make fun of them when they lost by 50 points to all the major teams? Well guess what. They just beat Cincy. Think that experience against bigger and better teams didn't help?
You become the best, by playing the best.
Second of all, for the love God please learn to spell "Stoney Brook" or "Liegh" correctly.
Third, I can tell you're a tech fan

If you ever have a chance to play against a top 25 team you take it. Nobody thinks that we are going to win at VTech so there isn't that big of a risk associated with it. If they win? Business as usual. We take the huge paycheck and go home. If we ever pulled out an upset? It'd be an incredible day for sports at LU. Also, our students/alumni would flock to that game like nobodies business. Heck if this rumor turns out to be true, I'll without a doubt be at that game next year.

I'd be pretty excited to see this happen. It shows the confidence the athletic department has in the program and where they see us heading. Besides the fact of the money the WF game and possibly this one will bring to Liberty, these games will more than likely be nationally televised (worst case regionally) in areas that aren't exposed to LU football. This helps with potential football recruits and students to the school. Even if we lose both, there are a lot of positives to taking on such a challenging OOC opponents.

WHAT? Nationally televised on ESPN3 like all of our games. I doubt many recruits are logging on to their XBox to watch Liberty games. When Tech played JMU it was on ESPN3. Maybe CSN or MASN would pick it up but that it. I don't see how this shows confidence in the program? It would be a money grabbing move at the very most. I'm not a big fan of playing two FBS teams next year. I understand the move fiscally, but I'd rather fill our two voids in the schedule with a Pioneer team and a decent FCS team.

App State lost to Va Tech just a couple months ago 66-13. You think their status is "cemented as can't compete with D1"? Playing Virginia Tech will be the best thing that has happened to our program. If we're able to compete with them for any amount of game time it will be that much better. And why do you think we’ll be embarrassed? Look at the Toledo, Ball State, Wake Forest, NC State, West VA games. Sure those teams aren’t Va Tech, but nothing shows me we will be embarrassed. Look at JMU/VT last year. Just having the opportunity to play them will do wonders for our program. A lot of alumni/students/local followers will immediately think “wow, Liberty is playing VT.” Everyone will expect us to lose 50-0. So if we do, big deal. If we compete with them for a quarter, or a half, or 3 quarters, or the whole game, everyone will walk away from that game impressed with our program. West VA fans walked away impressed with our program after that game in 2009. NC State fans walked away impressed with our program after that game this year. I guarantee you Wake Forest will walk away impressed with our program after our game next year.
Not to mention being able to tell recruits we don’t back down from playing top 15 teams in our backyard.

AND they can tell them, "we competed for three quarters with a (potentially) top 5 team in the nation...how'd you like to be one of the guys that can get us over the top in games like that?"
