What will get us over the hump...

Change the color of our field!

White or Red or Blue or a mixture

Why? Look at the 3 other schools with colored turfs:
Boise State - doesn't need an explanation
Eastern Washington - wins the national championship the first year they have the red turf
Central Arkansas - in the playoffs for the first time in school history the first year with their purple & gray turf

I like the idea of white turf and all white uniforms. We'd be like a polar bear in a snow storm - we'd be stealth :D

I think red, white, and blue alternating every 10 yards would intimidate, and look ridiculously awesome!

why stop there? why not paint the entire field as one big American flag. saves the hassle of getting one out for military appreciation day. its school colors and its American! LIBERTY and justice for all! no one would ever question our patriotism! we should then rename it to pledge of alliance field at Williams stadium. i think it could be a huge boon for our program.

Some stud/fast running backs.

I think we have both of those. Need an OC who will stick with the run.

danny rocco's not andy reid. if we can run it effectively we will run the football, as proven in 2008 with rashad jennings. if we cant run it next year... well, at least 2013 looks like a good year for the program.

Just curious. How does the Rocco vs. Rocco thread get closed but this one doesn't? I wasn't a huge fan of the Rocco vs. Rocco thread other than it made me laugh. However, in terms of which thread is dumber, this one is obviously winning...

ff4e has an axe to grind (or at least it seems so) and so he created a poll with an obviously slanted question and a premise that (at least from what I could tell) would hopefully slant the results to show that the board was anti-Danny Rocco

Well, I mean I honestly don't think that anything on this board will have any direct effect on Liberty athletics. I don't have a problem with the initial question or direction of this thread. However, I just don't see how FF4E's thread should be closed and this one left open. Honestly, I don't think either thread had any significant meaning. I think FF4E was just being creative in how to let out his anger about this past weekend. Anyone who took any part of that thread serious, needs to take a breather.

aside from the fact that this thread was started as a joke, and then morphed into a serious discussion about how to improve our football team. not a dumb irrelevant poll.

I know for a fact this isn't true.

I'm still waiting for my ringing a Liberty Bell at home games after scores IDEA to take off.

I so can't believe you are trying to take credit for that!

I'm rethinking this. Now that we have a new coach can we get rid of the white helmets. Even at the press conference we still show the blue helmets which I like better than the white. Do away with the thug black unis as well.

1. Continue improving recruits - with strong fundamentals that make less mistakes.

2. A good QB ! We need a smart/good passer (limit the mistakes -interceptions and fumbles) that leverages the running game. (ie: not a RB, but QB that gets the ball to a stud RB)

3. A STRONG defense. A defensive strategy that lasts the entire game. Comes to play every game. And plays strong against every offense we play.
It seems our D plays strong 3/4 of the time, but at times offenses have found too many holes.
Our D is strong, but against some offenses, it totally breaks down. Sometimes it has been the Offenses fault too - fumbling in the red zone or throwing interceptions... but it showed agsinst SB - they could not stop SB. Maybe we start with a strong D-Line that can stop the run AND put pressure on the QB.
Maybe without TOP recruits up front, a 4-3 is the key for a more solid D.

I know folks like to single out our defense as not being good enough, but at the FCS level there really isn't a defense good enough. We gave up 343.27 yards per game which was 35th in FCS. Our scoring defense was 22 per game which ranked us 30th. Really, at the FCS level, we just need to be able to force enough turnovers to win that battle and not worry about much more. That will change with the move to FBS, but for now it should be okay to have playmakers who cause changes of possession.

We just saw a playoff game between the #2 scoring defense (SHS) and the #13 scoring defense (Montana) that ended up 31-28. That's reality at this level.

I uderstand what you are saying NotaJerry,,, but if you can do it at the Highschool level, and FBS level and NFL level, it should be able to be done at the FCS level.
Key is #1 above - better recruits... I understand it is easier to build and recruit offensive players.
Defensive players are the real challenge - they need to be able to stop everything (run, pass, speed, power)

We should be able to have enough backups/players that we can switch to a power run D or a pass/prevent D. Seems the last couple years we play ONE D, with small variations.
We did not have the horses, nor play calling to stop SB running game (and everyone knew it was coming), other games, our D-backs got burned.... and we have good DBs... so some of that is the defensive game plan.

Black has nothing to do with being a "thug"

Why do most people on the this board hate the black unis? They happen to be my favorite. You guys sound like a bunch of cranky old men. :oldhag

Because if our school colors are red, white, and blue, where does black fit in?

I reject the argument that black is thuggish, I just care that it's not our school colors.

I agree about questioning where black fits in our color scheme
As for it's thuuginess that makes me simile. Back in the day at my Christian high school we chose black as our class color. We were told 'Black simply isn't a color for Christians'. A certain student responded 'Dont tell that to the Principal because he only wears black suits".

That is 343.27 yards per game too many.
