I was up in L'Burg Sunday and Monday. On Monday afternoon, Paul Rutigliano took me on a tour of the new facilities, field, etc. (also gave me a couple of hats and shirts
) The new stadium turf is sweet! The operations center should be unrivaled in 1-AA.
I wish I could have played a game or two on this new turf. Man, it looks good!
I spoke with Paul about alumni relations, specifically with former players. This is something that they really want to get better at and get former players more involved. The thought is to create regional contacts and go from there. I think that's a really good idea.
I can't believe how much the school has changed - even in the last two years. It's definitely changed a TON since my student days. It was good to get back up there and certainly glad to be remembered. I mentioned to my wife that I guess it's a good thing when you see former coaches, etc. and they smile when they see you. Sure beats the opposite
I got to see Bill Gillespie and Coach Williams. Bill is hugomongouso!! My wife couldn't stop staring at him. It was funny. Of course, Coach Williams hasn't aged a day it seems. Never known a classier man in my life.
Oh, well. There's my take on a recent visit. I really enjoyed it.
P.S. I was outside of the DeMoss building and this girl was on her cell phone telling, I guess, her roommate to stay out of her §HIT! She kept repeating it and REALLY loud. I got to thinking - wow, these kids there today don't even care about reps, huh
