I dont think youll see Rocco being on PSU or anybody's radar unless we make a deep run into the playoffs. Even then, you know that JB is gonna open up the proverbial wallet if we do make that run and try to keep him on the mountain

Rocco's name has already mentioned publicly by sources for both the Penn State & Ole Miss openings. Further evidence that our coach is well respected in coaching circles.

That's gonna be like the ND job. Anybody who wants to keep coaching more than 4 years won't touch it.

Sly Fox,

My nephew goes to Law school at Ole Miss and word is that Rocco is very high on the list. I remember both Marshall and East Carolina offered him, and he did the new contract that stopped the rumers (both school's forums had him already there). Maybe some on this board would be pleased with his departure; I think it would be disasterous.

Whatever I say, you guys will jump on me and think the opposite anyway. So I say that Rocco will not leave.

Now the rest of you may argue over my "idiotic agenda".

I think that the ultimate rumors are Rocco will leave for Penn State and we will turn around and hire Jim Tressel

Well obviously Tony Dungy would be our defensive coordinator. Bowden our OC. I thought that was just assumed

My guess is that no one with any ties whatsoever to the program will be considered. Penn State will want to essentially start over and I believe all former players and assistant coaches are off the list as evidenced by the BOT reaching out to London.

Yeah so I'm an idiot for calling Mike London a great coach. And now the penn state BOT wants to contact him about the PSU job.

Hmmm... yeah I'm definately the idiot!

Logic has a point. I dont think they are going to want someone with previous ties to PSU (which probably also rules out Bradley or Jay Paterno). Theyll want a completely fresh start with whoever they hire

A hint of sarcasm of course.

And postman, I still respect you regardless.

PSU already tried to get Golden but he turned them down, same is expected for Schiano. So the whole someone with no PSU ties is nonsense.

They are trying to get a A-list coach and despite rumors of Meyers already turning it down, there is a chance he is still interested. Caldwell, the head coach for the Colts, is rumored to express interest.

From what I heard Rocco is on the list but a lot of Coaches will have to decline to get to him. Interestingly enough Grobe is high on the list.

Everyone listed above has some connections to Penn State in their past. I honestly believe that the university will try to hire someone who is a Penn State man (for lack of a better term) with no connections whatsoever to the scandal. In other words, nobody associated with the staff since 1998.

Golden & Schiano make perfect sense. But I fully understand why neither is interested. Nobody wants to be the man coming in after a legend under normal circumstances and this goes so far beyond normal that it is ridiculous.

Penn State folks have a wish list that frankly doesn't seem reasonable. Many of those mentioned would probably jump at the job in a heartbeat after a couple of years. But whoever takes over in Happy Valley next is essentially taking it on the chin for the university.

I admit that the Grobe rumors scare me because he is the type of guy who might bite and his absence at Wake could be bad news for us.

jbock..dont pat yourself on the back too hard. London stated firmly that he nor his agent had received any contact whatsoever from Penn State regarding the job, and he said that emphatically, go listen to him say it. Either he's a ball faced liar or it's a hoax. Not one person said London wouldn't be a great coach, we all said it was too early to tell. A year from now you may be able to make a more def. statement but that is another discussion.

:nod I think you are right on Sly.

By the way... No one who dresses like a bum on Game day will be considered for the Penn State job.

Id guess the reason they turned it down is that they know its a dumpster fire at this point. If someone with previous ties to Paterno, they are not going to be viewed as highly. I think Sly has it right and they are going to want someone who can start with a clean sheet of paper and rebuild the program that way

I definitely agree that PSU will likely stay away from anyone previously related to the program. With that in mind, let's say that most of us on here are wrong and for whatever reason they do go after Rocco. (For the record, even if they went with someone who's related to the program, I doubt they would go after Roccer). If they did though, would anyone agree that we could still benefit from it, in terms of conference movement? I'm just thinking that even if PSU went after Rocco as an OC, it only puts LU further on the map.
Secondly, and on a completely different note, what are the chances that PSU goes after Urban Meyer? I haven't done any research on it, hence why I'm asking, but I really think he could be a nice fit up there. Although, I think he would decline, any chances he gets an offer?

Sweat, do some form of research before you post. Rocco has ZERO offensive coaching background. He's a defense and more specifically a linebacker coach.

I really just meant coordinator in general...I indicated that I hadn't researched it much...but thanks for the input...
